Anderson or Suhr?

I have owned both Andersons and Suhrs, and while they are both excellent guitars, the Suhrs won me over easily. There was something odd about the Anderson neck -- every one I played felt like it had a slight V shape to it. Even the roundback shape had a point right in the middle of the back of the neck that I found annoying.

That's odd as mine (a TA Standard) and the several other Andersons I've played have had no "V" at all. Mine is a nice even "C" shape. I dislike that feel "V" as well.

Both guitars are excellent. With that in mind I'd opt for Anderson since no more are being made.

They are still making several guitars a week--same as always.

If you are referring to last November when was Tom talking about scaling down to a one man operation, he decided against that idea long before it ever came about.

I see. I was under the impression they had simply stopped.

Well, either way you can't go wrong.

The medium vintage C Suhr shape is the most comfortable neck I have ever played, and the satin feel is just perfect. Suhr pickups sound better to me as well. I still have my Fiesta Red Suhr strat -- I've sold all the others because the necks were too thin. I prefer a fatter neck than most.

I find that wierd as well because the standard Drop top neck shape with the 1 5/8th nut width feels just about as perfect to me as the C slim Suhr neck. I never noticed any V shape to them. The Cobra necks are a little bit fatter, but they are also 24.75 scale length as well. Maybe there's a very slight V to it, but it's not much.

Personally, i like Anderson humbuckers by far over Suhr humbuckers. But i think i liked the Suhr single coils better than most of the Anderson single coils i played. I think the Suhr singles get that traditional strat vibe nice. But the Anderson H3 humbucker is just one of the balliest buckers while still sounding clear.

IMO when you are talking that kind of coin you have got to play it first, both Danyeo and SteveVHT have received beautiful looking Suhr guitars but both were sold due to being tone dead. Played awesome though.

I am going to side with the original, Tom Anderson.

I wouldn't say the Koa Suhr i had was tone dead. It just didn't sound anything what i wanted it to sound like. And i can't believe that Koa is supposed to sound like Mahoganey. If anything it had more in common with a solid maple. SteveVHT and Stratboy both liked that Suhr when they played it. The thing was a beauty and played great. If you really tweaked your amp for that guitar then it was workable. But it was a bummer when i payed $2400 for it and i played that crappy $400 Ibanez 3120 more than the Suhr.

But it's like anything else and you have to play these things first to really hear them. There's thousands of Les Pauls out there that sound like crap that the owners will convince themselves that they sound good. But wood is not the most consistent thing in the world and we really need to judge these guitars on an individual basis. So, i can't sit here and keep saying that Suhr makes $2400 guitars that are tone dead. It's just not the case. But sure, they will make a guitar that will play perfect and look great, but it may not sound exactly how they want. I'm sure they won't chuck it in the dumpster though.
But i will say that I've had better luck with Andersons as far as what i think a guitar should sound like. They're both making some killer guitars. Crap, I'm giving myself GAS.

Anderson....

If I had to sell everything today and keep one electric, my Cobra would cover just about every tone I could ever need, from clean to mean, from bucker to Tele / Strat with the push pull splitter.

amps are where the magic is.

For me it's the other way around.

Which of your amps looks the coolest?

Steve

Ah see now you are learning, function follows form is the way to view this.

of those two I'd go with the Suhr only because I think anyone who covers up a nice top with a big o hunk of plastic should be shot

YOu have a point there if you are paying extra for the top, I would go will a solid color if opting for a pickguard if I was ordering one.

Well I decided to custom order one. Not gonna get either one of these. I'll feel better knowing that I paid what I did for the guitar and it's to my specs.

Thanks for all your responses.
