Another cable thread.

Hello RT,

Welp, you know me, I am always doing comparisons.

This time, I figured the difference would be minute but I was WRONG.

I have an older thread on here where I tested a number of cables against each other and rated capacitance, yada yada.

I have always preferred Ernie Ball braided cables over everything else they went against until....

I got some Best Tronics cabling in. The 0446 I believe.

WOW.

Even when testing a shorter length of another make against the BT, the Tronics has clarity across the entire spectrum.

The EBs have a low mid oomph and a really nice,l soundstage, but sound almost muffled in comparison to the Best-Tronics cabling.

The clarity, punch and definition are apparent with these cables.

Super low noise floor too.

These do not EQ the sound as much as other cables like the Mogami golds and the like.

Very clear, level, balanced EQ that has a tight but present and full bass all the way up to the tippy top.

Again, did not expect that much of an audible difference.

It was notable through the several amps and setups I tried.

I have the patch cabling as well and am about to redo my board when I get time.

Solder, solder, solder......

Update:

I swapped out the cabling on my board last night. The difference again is audible, even at low levels. Super, super clear sound across the spectrum.
Could not be happier that I went with Best-Tronics.

If you had not heard until Best-Tronics until now, check em out!

I'm so fed up with cables that I'm now happy if sound just passes through.

Every single cable I own ties itself in a knot as I'm unrolling them. It's the damdest thing. They never self straiten, but they self tangle. Motherfuckers every one.

Gotta learn to roll up cables properly. I do the over-under method, and I can throw a cable across stage holding an end and have it fall flat with no kinks, knots, or tangles. Same goes for my amp snakes.

EVERY SINGLE ONE. Idk what it is about guitar cables, but they try their damndest to knot up as much as possible.

Nah, I am not doing all of the crazy and rigorous testing like the last thread. In the end, i could not find a correlation to the audible difference myself and a fellow master engineer could hear very well. Blind testing was done, etc.

This is just - The guitar is ran sgraight into the amp with a cable and I play some on the clean channel and then with gain.

Swap out the cable and run it again.

Rinse and repeat with multiple amp and cabinet setups.

Results are always the same: Best-Tronics wins out by an audible mile.

I may be in need of some opinions myself. Since I just unloaded/restacked all my amps, I may need some good plain ol' cables to run for the footswitches. I still have a ton of my trusty Monster cables I bought years ago from Guitar Center to patch my rack together and they all still work, and I have my Livewire cable or whatever (whenever I can find it) that is silent when unplugged for my main instrument to amp cable, but I think the rest of my cables are just a jumbled mess of different lengths, stiffnesses, brands, etc.

I did all sorts of researching before dropping any cash. I went with Best Tronics in the end for all of my cabling. Will report back as to how the patch cables sound in comparison to the EB flats I have been using, and various other s I have that the EB beat out.

A lot of people like Mogami patch cables and Mogami Gold instrument cables but I heavy dislike them. They remove part of the soundstage and make the sound flatter IME.

Honestly BTPA are some of the best, quality, affordable, top performance cables available right now.

Definitely worth checking out.

Regarding untangling cables the MXR Pro Series cables are about the only ones that don't really tangle into one another. I use them but not because of that but I was pretty surprised how well this cable did int that regard compared to 20+ different cables. They sound good too and I use the patches and rotate between the guitar cables too.

I emailed BTP and they got back to me with their recommendation for the instrument/FX cables and the patch cables along with the recommended ends for each.

I was worried about top end and making everything as short as possible but after shooting out a 15 ft cable against a 10 ft and it being a clear winner, I stopped worrying and am making them all the lengths I'd like.

I have my rig running now with all 4 cables swapped out for the BT and have zero regrets. Super happy I went with this after many weeks/months of studying and searching.

Do not see how you could improve upon the soundstage and frequency range for a cable.
Soundfloor is also dead quiet.

Good luck in your hunt!

I have an MXR microphone cable that never tangles come to think of it. Good observation there.

Read an old cable thread you were involved in. Had BTPA on there as well, you seemed to dig them! Good stuff from your side of the conversation 100%.
