CEOs, lawyers, doctors, millionaires, etc did not put Metallica on top of the world. I don't understand the ridiculous greed by Gibson. Sure, KH gets his share too. Remember the fans who put you where you are today.
As far as Kirk himself is concerned, I suspect that re-creating guitars from his youth is probably a fun and interesting proposition. His cut in terms of licensing on a limited edition piece like this is nominal at best, and would have no impact on him financially as his net worth is north of $100 million. No substantive profit motive for him personally. Gibson actually generates most of its net operating income by way of lower and mid-level instruments commonly sold at Guitar Center and Sweetwater. This type of guitar is more for promotion (aligned with NAMM and a new Metallica record), recognition and and establishment as a lifestyle brand.

I'm sure some of them did but get your point.

It's funny to see people that are clueless about Metallica trying to be fans, etc. and don't get metal, don't get the history, etc. I remember during the Black Album tour everyone was dancing around with the opener, "Enter Sandman". Then "Creeping Death" kicked in and the true fans were in Heaven, lol.

Crazy idea, but I would suspect the demographic this guitar is appealing to is the 40s to 50s age bracket fans/ collectors, etc that are established in life and have plenty of disposable income to indulge in a purchase like this. When I was 16 or 17 and saw the original ESP KH-2 in a Musicians Friend catalog, I lusted for that guitar for years. I got a Jackson performer that was black and had a reverse headstock, it was within my budget and looked close enough to satisfy my fan boy urges at the time. Now that I'm older and have more disposable income to make purchases for the fuck of it, I've bought the sig models I wanted and filled that gap that was open since seeing those guitars in a catalog so many years back. I would imagine there's some die hard fans out there that are well to do and this might be that thing thats fulfills that same need or want. Metallica has such a wide appeal to a diverse group of people in all varieties of socioeconomic backgrounds that selling out of these, is likely not going to be a problem.
