Another hurricane.. Ugghh... Headed straight for us.

Yeah that's not a good situation. At least get some preps, plan and backup plan...
She's got preps and I arranged a backup plan but she don't own a kayak, fire truck, or helicopter so there is that. I just don't want to see her suffer for a lack of old-man-like-me wisdom.

I can empathize with you
I KNOW, RIGHT ?

Why the hell don't they just move away from the damn hurricanes ?

Every area has some sort of natural disaster. We get a number of days warning to prepare for a hurricane. Unlike other areas where a tornado pops up or an earthquake shakes the ground out of nowhere. Given the choice I'd rather have time to evacuate if needed than be fucked an dead in a moment.

I have a friend in Dunedin they did okay with Helene but they're heading north tomorrow.
Dunedin is a barrier island.

For sure. I moved here in '89, and even worked with Trevor of Obituary before he left to tour Europe when Slowly We Rot came out. The band I was in practiced next door to Morbid Angel. The 90's were great times. Big bands came out of Tampa/Florida, and attracted alot of big names to play here, and record at Morrisound.
A couple of guys in that band ( Morbid Angel) lived in a room down stairs from me in a flop house off N. Platt back in the early 80s. Used to get drunk with some dudes from Nasty Savage too.

You recorded at Morris sound? Pretty much the top big dawg studio there to this day.

We used to rehearse weekly at Joe Diaz's Circle Studios in Seminole. It was all metalheads, we were the only blues band. Joe is a really good dude, reasonable rates, chill laid back vibe....you could smoke in there. Helluva player too. He filled in for some of the Savatage reunions since Chris Oliva died (RIP). A big blues fan too. Love that guy. Get stuck paying Austin Music Lab rates and your memories get all the more fond for his place. Couches, cabs, amps, p.a provided. Smoke what you like. Just don't spit on the walls!!!!
I didn't record at Morrisound, personally. I was part of 2 projects that were going to, but fell apart. One was to have Richard Christy

Probably Ben from Nasty Savage. He was a wild one.

Those guys were all pretty crazy. We all were though. Kennedy Blvd was lit back then.

I went to springs theater studio and didn't have a very good experience TBH. Morris sound was a little outta my price range. Truthfully I found George Harris' home studio to be top notch and much more reasonable. Dude is a maestro when it comes to recording and mixing. Not sure if you're familiar with him or not but he occasionally engineers at the Springs. I had a great experience working with him.

Already a CAT 4 today. This one is gonna rewrite the landscape.

Now a Cat 5. I have a friend that grew up on the water and has weathered many storms, is exceedingly well prepared, ex marine corps. He has stayed through every storm since the 90s. Planned on staying this time. I asked him to keep me updated. He called me this morning and told me even he is bailing out to north FL because of the danger. This is working towards becoming a Katrina level event. I don't think gulf coast FL will ever be the same if this lands as a Cat 5. Working on getting my daughter out this morning. I think she is listening to her papa, thank the Lord!

Yup CAT 5

My 86 year old Mom is all alone In Naples. We're hoping for the best.
Keep me posted about this. I'm not sure she has an option to leave now. I'm hearing about some gas stations already out of fuel so not sure she would be able to make it to safety leaving now. I would see about possibly locating a storm shelter in that area if there are any JIC. I'll def keep your mom in my prayers brother.

I am planning a 7-10 day mission down to St. Pete FL as soon as it will be possible to get into the gulf beaches after the storm. I expect my father's house to be flooded with four or more feet of water, if there is even anything left after Cat 5 200mph winds. I do not expect my sister to have much of a house left, period, since it already flooded with water half way and is on a lower lying area of the beach. I have other friends and family and an old boss out on the beach as wel. I was actually planning a sponsored tour in Nov and so far it looks like the sponsors are willing to help us get there to assist in recovery instead.

She wouldn't leave if she had the option. She and her neighbors are all staying like they do for every storm.
She's stubborn.

The only + is the house's in her 2000+ home community are all concrete and they're pretty tough. She's got heavy duty shutters up on all the windows. I'm hoping they don't get a direct hit.

projected to weaken to a cat 3 before landfall.
That's sort of good news. A cat 3 dead on the chin is still extremely destructive. From reading some previous discussion it sounds like you are familiar with Tampa area so no doubt you get it. I am still seeing "Cat 5" from news stories released 20 minutes ago though...180+mph

I readied my saw, blades, gas, oil, generator, and some other tools so I'm on standby to head out anytime after my Friday gig.

At least she has a solid house and neighbors. I'll be praying for everyone there. Apparently my daughter drug her feet all day like a moron and is just now leaving. She's either gonna be stuck in St. Pete or stuck on I-275 in traffic for many additional hours, if not for the duration of the storm. HEAVY TRAFFIC headed north now. Getting reports now that St. Pete and Tampa are running out of gas already. Buddy has a diesel and was able to get 12 gallons over near Tampa international. Another friend has family in Orlando and even they are leaving. New Florida is about to become old Florida again.

I hope it goes straight out in the ocean and comes back in and hits @Dan Gleesak 's house.
