I’ve read through most (not all) of the Cameron threads because its kind of like the ESPN replay when the guy’s leg bends the wrong way: dreadful, but for some unknown reason you just cannot get yourself to avert your eyes. That and the clips of Cameron amps that I’ve heard range in sound from ‘really’ good to ‘extremely’ good. But there are a lotta amps out there that that sound ‘extremely’ good. I’ve never played a Cameron before, but several folks who have played and/or owned them have posted that while there are other amps that have equally good ‘sound’ - it comes down to the ‘feel’ of the Cameron that makes them so memorable when you play one. These folks have said that notwithstanding the high degree of clarity and string separation, they are super forgiving and ‘easy’ to play like amps with much more compression than the tone coming out of the speakers would suggest. I have no idea what goes on inside an amp while I am playing through it. I can change tubes and set bias and that’s it. But one would have to think that one (or more) of the accomplished amp builders out there would have identified whatever combination of components it is that allows an amp to retain that articulation and clarity while letting the player have that greasy, slippery ‘feeling’ under the fingers while playing.
So my question is, what other amps have you guys played that stay articulate while giving the player plenty of grease?
