Are locking tuners that much better than standard tuners?

Just wondering what you guys think about locking tuners like Sperzels. Do they really hold tune that much better than something like Grovers?

Tell you what man. I've recently aquired 2 guitars in the last few weeks that both have Sperzels, and I can't believe how GREAT they are. I can't belive I've never had these before. They stay in tune unbelievably well and changing strings takes about 3 minutes.

I love em.

I don't know I'd say the HOLD tune better. they seem to be more "accurate" or touchy maybe. and part of that comes from not having multiple string winds around the tuner pole. like old Kluson tuner on Gibsons tend to wear out when they get old and slip some. I haven't seen that with Sperzels. I've had a set for 10 years on a guitar. I like them more for the ease and quickness of use. what do Caparisons come with? don't they come with locking nuts? what kind of guitar are thinking of putting them on?

I've always wondered the same and if they're worth it for a Floyd equipped guitar.

if it has a locking nut, it would do nothing aside from making string changes quicker since you're locking it down at the nut. if its a standard style nut. I'd put them on no question.

It's not for a Caparison, they all have Floyd's for the most part. I'm thinking of getting some for my Explorer, which has mini Grover tuners now. I just miss the tuning stability of a Floyd.

I suppose I should add that I really don't care about how easy they are to use, or how much quicker they are for string changes. I'm just interested if they hold tune better.

Locking tuners are very nice to have, changing strings takes no time at all, and it takes less time for the strings to get to the point where they'll hold tune.
That said, knowing that you use a .56 on the low E, you should look into other brands. I can't get anything larger than a .52 through the Sperzels on my DV8.

It's a moot point if you're using a locking nut.

I'm actually using a 60 for the low E on my Explorer, since it's short scale. I use a 56 on 25.5" scale guitars. :(

prs guitars use locking tuners. they hold tine quite well, as long as the vibrato isnt abused too much.

i loved them on my les paul; they held low tunings awesome. but i was only using 11-54's, a 60 is fucking huge.

It's not that big considering it's on a short scale guitar tuned to B standard. I hate thin, loose strings.

gotcha, i'm in c standard, on a 25.5 scale guitar. but, the 60 might not pass through the hole in the sperzel tuners. the 54 is a tight fit.

That's pretty lame, what other high quality locking tuners are there? I think Grover makes some?
