From about 14 years old to my early 20s, Blackmore was my #1; until I heard Holdsworth.I like Ritchie alot, Uli is #1 for me.
I’m not familiar enough with his work, but the stuff I’ve heard is definitely cool. The Frank Marino cult comparison thing is funny. That cult is totally justified. Even if he had just recorded the Juggernaut album, that would have locked him in forever.
Roth, Michael Schenker and Jabs were all killer players. The first two seem to get all the accolades but I think Jabs was criminally underrated. Love drive, Animal Magnetism and Blackout had some incredible riffs and lead work.
Yeah I like Holdsworth too. I bought Metal Fatigue in high school and was totally confused. Took some years before coming back to it and understanding /getting it.From about 14 years old to my early 20s, Blackmore was my #1; until I heard Holdsworth.
Blackmore is someone I never appreciated much. He seems like a weird guy, ans his playing never sparked any interest. Deep purple wasn't my thing......except Perfect Strangers was a great album imho....mostly due to Ian's vocals.Never a big fan of the Scorpions, thought they were ok; but compared to Sabbath, Purple, Priest, Maiden, ... not so much. Much prefer Blackmore to Uli when it comes to guitar skills, and Iommi is a riff master. IMO
Frank is criminally underrated. My friend @JohnnyGtar turned me on to that album this week. Frank has some amazing clean technique and can get around a fretboard very quickly!!!
There is a lot of 70's hard rock and blues-rock that seems to be overlooked now. Steve Mariott is another guy that was pretty talented on guitar/vox that you just don't hear about often. It's surprising to me that more rock guitar guys don't mention them.Frank is criminally underrated.
Yes, Marriott's another one of my top musicians, especially Small Faces and early Humble PieThere is a lot of 70's hard rock and blues-rock that seems to be overlooked now. He probably is manning a San Fran glory hole....be back next week after sores heal.OP just being a troll. Tosses a grenade in the room and then scoots.
I enjoy listening to both players. But fans of each tend IME to be very passionate, which is fine w/meI’m not familiar enough with his work, but the stuff I’ve heard is definitely cool. Nope. Killer band. Very talented dudes. Uli always struck me as an odd duck but super nice and talented. Them and Van Halen on the monsters of rock tour was killer. I was in high school then if I remember correctly….Scorpions can be a fun band to listen to, no question but I have a hard time with the hardcores praising the playing of UJR. He's not that good, sorry. Prove me wrong and link some videos that will change my mind. Not to mention, he wasn't even involved at the time Scorpions blew up with their "hit" songs.
What say you RT...Obviously I'm an asshole. Have been for many years now but do Scorpions suck and does UJR suck harder?? DISCUSS!!![]()
Uli wasn’t with them then was he? I saw that up in Maine when I was in HS—June and it was 40 degrees and pouring rain. Scorps were great, but I don’t recall Uli being a partNope. Killer band.
