i heard the bad cat leash doesnt sound good at low volumes.one of the guys at the metroamp forum tried one.
 
Check out the Koch Loadbox, seems to get high ratings but not cheap... $579

The only thing I don't dig about his attenuator is the price and the enclosure. Hopefully he will polish up the cosmetics and find a less expensive way to market them.

I still prefer a good preamp feeding a small(~2watts, anything less don't have enough balls to move most guitar speakers, IMO) poweramp for overdriven low volume situations.

I like the concept, heck I do the same with my rack, except I load an 8 ohm amp down with a 8 ohm load and then amplify it with a 90 watt power amp.

Along the same line: My latest rig is running a 2watt poweramp for late night practice. But when I go big I drive the 2watter into a reactive load with a compensated line out into 400watts of American power.
2x100watt Bogen tube poweramp for highs and mids, 2x100watt Altec SS poweramp(very stable for lows, plus they have transformer coupling on the OP stage, warm and round)for lows, RANE electronic crossover.
