MURDERATOR
looking for something cheap to start playing again. Thinking about another line 6 unit, or should I go with software like amplitube or neural? Just going to be fucking around. I've used the line 6 stuff before, numerous times. While ok it never blew my socks off. Also considering the boss gt1000. Just curios as to what the homies think.....

I got a Peavey Vypyr Tube 60. Tube power section. Updated Transtube preamp basically. Lots of features and headphone jack. I like the Recto and Diezel amp settings the best. Sounds decent cranked. I don't have the patience for the software route. I like to just plug in and go an crank a dial and feel my pants vibrate.

The Line 6 HX Stomp series would be a good unit as this runs the same modeling software as the Helix. The new Helix and HX platform which has been out for a while is not the Line 6 of old. Amp, cabs, stomp sims are real good.

You can get a used HX stomp for $450 range and the HX stomp XL used for around $600 as these pop up used all the time.

Another option might be the Headrush line as these can be had used pretty cheap as well and these come with touchscreen displays.

I have a little pv modeling amp sitting in the closet....It was my brothers..I'll have to pull it out and check it out. Glad you mentioned that-I forgot all about it...

the last one I had was an hd500x floor unit. It was fine but just lacked something if that makes any sense....

Yamaha THR10 series is always my go to but since you already have the lil Peavey Vypyr that oughtta work fine

Ampeg GVT15 + King of Clone + Nocturne Mystery Brain. Swap the stock speaker with whatever you like.

If you don't mind spending a little more... VOX AC15H1TV + Fulltone ABY Switcher + King of Clone + Nocturne Mystery Brain. (No effects loop with the VOX).

I never liked the HX Stomp I own... I like the FM3 better than anything but it is not cheap. The AA6 and Headrush are better than Line 6 to me. For cheap, I'd get some monitors and the mooer ge150 seems to get a lot of respect over at TGP.

Or a Boss Katana if you want a modeling amp

Although the hx stomp is a good suggestion, you would then need a power amp and cabinet of some sort.

I’d probably suggest a katana combo. Of course you can throw down some money for better tones but you’ll have diminishing returns. The katana is really good for the money. Best value in my opinion.

Otherwise, if you want something smaller, the spark amp is a great choice as well.

I never liked my viper. Too thin sounding.

I’m pretty happy with my 6505MH. On the 1W setting it can do bedroom levels just fine. Built in reverb is handy. All tube attitude and sound so you can practice volume rolling or running through songs.

No frills. No BS to setup. Just turn on and go.

The Yamaha mentioned earlier has gotten good praise but ive never jammed on one.

I've read very good reviews on the Positive Grid Spark amp. Under $300 too.
It's a solid choice for tones and features. They can't seem to keep from fucking up the software updates though. I've never updated mine because of all the problems I've read about.

Peavey transtube 12...perfect practice amp.

What well you be listening through; guitar cab, studio monitors or something else?

computer speakers for now. kinda leaning towards the P.G. spark.....

All these amp simulators bore me after about an hour.

I would suggest a small Fender amp, champ, blues jr.

You are less likely to get bored quick.

forgot about that one...
Dude, let me tell you too that I am really enjoying playing thru pedals into a 4x12 cab emulator and then into my computer speakers. I'm using a Bogner LA Grange pedal and have used a Keeley Filaments as well. Eventually I'd like to get a Friedman Smallbox pedal. Here is a clip I did with just the Bogner LA Grange into a Radial box then into the computer:
