Congrats. I picked up a Sig X last year and really liked it. Never tried a D60 or D120.
Basically, I say the Sig may as well be a 3 channel Deliverance. The Deliverance is a TAD more aggressive, and I mean a TAD. I was able to cop my favorite Deliverance tones pretty damn well with the Sig.
It baffles me a bit that some folks here compare the Deliverance to a SLO and then you're saying Deliverance vs. SigX is about 95% there...
I *had* a Sig:X, but especially the lead channel to me was a far cry from the thickness of the SLO raw power.
The Sig:X to me is much more dry and stiff, whereas the SLO has this chunky sponginess to it.

I sold it, because I just prefer something a tad more saturated and chunky in lead tones as well as more Fendery cleans. I will say that the Rhythm channel of the Sig:X housed the best tones in that amp and would sometimes out-Marshall a Marshall at its own game. YMMV though.
When I compared the D60 to the SLO I had at the time, that SLO was boosted a bit with a Boss OD1X and the mids on the amp were dropped a bit...the D60 was scooped in comparison. So the boost changed that sponginess you mention. And, the feel between them was very different. But to me, when I swapped both amps through the same cab the tone itself was very close. But the dry/stiffer feel of the VHT was apparent vs the SLO which had more bounce to it.

I make no claims to how close it sounds to a SLO. Never played one. Had an Avenger but not at the same time as any Fryette/VHT stuff. I did have a Sig, D120 at the same time and I could get all my favorite Deliverance tones about spot on with the Sig, hence my comment on it being like a 3 channel Deliverance.

I wasn't implying that *you* made that claim. I merely combined the input from 2 comparisons (SLO vs. Deliverance and Deliverance vs. Sig:X).

But it's good to see that Racerxrated is on the same page as well; we're in agreement that an SLO is typically a lot bouncier/spongier than a Fryette/VHT.

Oh yeah I totally get that. Just meaning I was in no way able to make a comparison.

Congrats Jer

Got to play Maddnotez Pittbull back when he had it. UltraLead I think. Brutal amp.

Can't believe I have not had a chance to play a Deliverance :(

Clips?

Jere,

What amps are you rocking now? Still have the D60? Curious to see what you have tried since and what is in your current stable.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Nope long gone.

Here’s the current stable:
• Friedman BE100
•’KSR Gemini w/Satch Mod
• Fortin Cali
• Hughes & Kettner DuoTone
• Randall RD45
• Mesa Dual Rec Rev G
• Engl 646 Smolski sig

Bunch of rack shit as well
• Mezzabarba Nirvana
• Engl E530
• SansAmp PSA1.1
• Synergy Syn-2 (shit ton of modules}

Also have a Kemper, Quad Cortex and Helix Rack.

Honestly, the Fryette PS100 and Deliverance module is so good, I sold this amp.

Digging the Friedman / KSR, looking at the BE Dlx and KSR Ares / Orthos myself.

Congrats! Have a D60 from 2005 with choke that to be honest, i'm playing more than my Wizard MCII i also just got.

I had the D120, Sig-X, and Ultra Lead all at the same time for a brief period.

The feeling I always had was that the Deliverance was flat out balls whereas the Ultra Lead was more precise like a scalpel. Don’t get me wrong…..the UL can still bring the thunder, but the deliverance was like an old muscle car with a big block.

I never really bonded with the Sig X…..couldn’t seem to get what I wanted from it but that could be because I was trying to compare it to the other two amps. In the end I kept the UL and will always keep that amp because of the versatility. I miss the Deliverance though and am not surprised that there are hardly ever any original ones for sale.

VHT D60 seemed to disappear, they were everywhere at one time. Im talking original VHT. I paid 700 for one in 2010.

I sold my D120 for $850 back in 2010. 😭

But you are right….they are hard to find these days.

Is the consensus that the original models are better than the current D120 / D60 Series II?
That’s a good question……I haven’t heard of any comparisons but I’m sure they are out there. Mine was probably one of the earlier batches in the original run. It didn’t have an effects loop and at the time I don’t think Steven Fryette was even offering them as a mod. It was billed as a simple, one channel, hot rodded Marshall type that took pedals really well.

It was definitely all of those things although playing in a band where I had to quickly go from dirty to clean (with effects) made it tough to gig with.

It was an amazing sounding amp though and I’m curious if the series 2 has the same magic.

That's great insight based on your experience. Are you just running with the two amps in your signature right now? (VHT UL and Dr Z)

Yeah I am. I don’t gig much anymore and if I do it’s with a blues based group. I did pick up a Captor X a couple years ago though so I am able to use my UL all the time at home now. I also use it to record on reaper.

I had a Kemper for a couple years but having the UL sit there unused was too much to handle! Lol

I’ve still got a couple fryette cabs though so I’m m ready for full stack action if needed! 😂

My old rig….I had a solid state power amp and old MP1 that I used for the cleans with an A/B switch.
