You read right! Throw'em at me!

I want a smooth lead, smooth with lots of upper midrange!

PASSIVE! btw.

GO!

well, no it isn't, but i think it works great for a smooth lead tone with a higain amp.

High Gain Single coil???? Any high gain single you may have played is probably a stacked pup. Single coils can be noisy and have moderate to low output, if you want a HIGH GAIN single coil (sized) pickup you should look into the Seymour Duncan line of single coil sized humbuckers, The Duncan Hot rails is a good choice or maybe the JB jr. and scremin demon Jr. in neck works well is strat style guitars. If you want to know more, research online about the winding of pickups and learn about the limits in single coil pickup winding. SOme custom handwound pickup makers offer high gain single coils (Bareknuckle trilogy suite) but can cost over $$$$ per pup.

Check out this pickup from Swineshead. I have dealt with these guys and they're knowledgeable and friendly. Great sounding pickups.

ive never tried a hot rail, but considering my JB Jr. sounds totally kick ass, the HotRail is probably a sweet pickup as well :)

Hey guys if u like metal then check out this band called Seventh Calling! Go to http://www.myspace.com/seventhcalling

these guys just put out a cd and its rockin!!!!!!

:bang: ps: if u live in minneapolis go check em' out at station 4 on September 1st.

pickups don't have gain. they have output. you want a high-output pickup.

I've got a kent armstrong version of a hotrail which meets your criteria max. I put it in the neck of my jackson and it is as smooth as glass.

He asked for single coil and everybody suggests rails. Hmm... single coils can do metal. It doesn't have to be a high output humbucker to sound good. I generally like my neck pickup to be semi-bright and less output than my bridge.
