Yes but by 1942 the US had joined the war. I was commenting on the tardiness and motivations of the US involvement. The US refused to get involved until the war came to them. Which is why I was going on about the flawed idea of being insular. The war will come to you anyway and by that time it may well be worse than one that was nipped in the bud (no pun about nips intended)

I don't view either Russia or China as a threat. Russia wanted Ukraine to remain neutral. Instead the United States provoked Russia by toppling the previous government and installing their own pro-western government, and then arming them, and then increasingly aiming to include the Ukraine into NATO. Had Ukraine committed to neutrality the war wouldn't have happened.

Ukraine is not part of the USSR - they can do what they like. They don't have to kowtow to Russia. They don't have to be neutral. Russia needs to "keep their hands to themselves".
