What power tube type does John use again???

EL-34's. For several years he ran Mesa branded Svetlanas in the amps. Then when those became unavailable and Mesa switched to Sovteks, he used the Sovteks and said they sounded just as good--if not better. On the road, it's whatever is available.

Thanks for the reply. Wonder what he thinks of SED EL34s? I always liked those a lot.

He used those cabs on the last two Lizzy tours he was on (in '07 & '08). They weigh a lot! He had 6 of them and we sold off 4 in 2000. However, a few years later we were after A/B'ing the 2 remaining cabs with his favorite Marshall cabs and the Wizard cabs sounded better and eventually he ended up getting some of the 4 previously sold cabs back. These are the "custom made" 4x12 cabinets I mention on the website and is quoted above.

Thanks for sharing that info Drew!

What speakers does John have in those Wizard cabs? And are they front loaded?

The one we opened had Celestion 65's and they are front loaded. The back panel edges are sealed up with no way to get the back off without destroying the cab. Each speaker has its own little round metal grill cover.
Anyone have experience with Celestion 65s ? How do they compare to Black Shadow MC-90s and V30s ?

Compared to 65s :
MC-90s are tighter, more lows, highs but their mids are quite flat and bland.
V30s are also tighter but have very little low end, rich mid mids, but then ear piercing nasty upper mids and fuzzy highs

65s are less efficient, very warm with exaggerated mids that are very sweet and similar to the Greenback mid crunch. The highs are not as sparkely as a GB but very silky and chimey. Absolutely killer with tight British voiced amps.
