If you want something tighter I’d try a Hermansson, Wizard Hell Razor or Mesa Mark series
I wrote with Hermansson. What's is name again, Henrik? But i did not buy one.If you want something tighter I’d try a Hermansson, Wizard Hell Razor or Mesa Mark series
The Mark V and JP2C aren’t the best examples of marks. They may or may not be for you, but I’d try a iic+ or at least at iii or iv before crossing them off the listI wrote with Hermansson. What's is name again, Henrik? But i did not buy one.
There's basically no Wizard in Europe and i'm not much interested in it anyway.
I had a Mark V, and the Limited JP-2C. I sold both.
I should simply stop GAS-ing and play the Guitar with the gear i have.
Saturday was great. Monday was terrible. Today it was awesome.
The reason is probably me and not the Amp.
I had days, where every single Amp of my collection simply sounded terrible.
One don't need more than 1 Amp to sound terrible.
Nah those are pretty much all EL34 from the factory. It wasn’t until Rev Blue Bogner offered 6L6 versionsI would assume Rev Green would be that rare bird, or am I mixing things up?
They are not off the List. I have a JP-2C on order. And i was of course looking at the Mark III and IVs.The Mark V and JP2C aren’t the best examples of marks. They may or may not be for you, but I’d try a iic+ or at least at iii or iv before crossing them off the list
I had all the Amps. Original, Rev Blue, Twin Jet and just recently the UU. UU wasn't for me.Never had a 6L6 Uber but currently have a Rev Blue, Ultra and until recently a TJ. The Twin was well behind the others, just couldn't get it sounding great for some reason. The blue is classic, but the Ultra is a mighty amp and a worthy successor.
Setting up the the channels on the UU is very simple, but there's more options for the power section than on any other amp we've had - 3 knobs and a 3-way switch. It takes some time to fiddle with them all, but it's well worth the effort.
Getta Wizard if ya want tight !!It works. But i'ts not quite tight enough for me.
I played the Hagen. But it's been a while.
I think i'm just GAS-ing.
I did not get the Wizard Hype yet.Getta Wizard if ya want tight !!
I had the EL34 UU. It has an annyoing metallic sound, that's always present. But i heard/was told that the UU is very Cab dependant. I hear it in some other clips too though.I think the KT88 version of the UU was the issue for you. I think you would have liked the EL34. I’ve also owned them all except for the twin jet. The UU is the perfect Uber IMO. With that being said the rev blue is cool too , I can get those same tones with the UU setting the presence switch to Uber, but the mids are better on the UU. KT88 tubes have a very specific sound that doesn’t work well with a lot of amps, I’ve gone through this a bunch of times. Anyways the 6L6 version of the blue might be cool , will it be much different from the EL34 I dunno. I remember talking with Jorg At Bogner over the phone about that amp and he said he prefers The EL34 blue , but ya never know.
I agree 100%. I think it says something that all of the Uber Ultra amps I’ve seen for sale already are the KT88 versions. I don’t think it suits the amp as well as EL34’s. It seems to take away from the character. The amp already gets stupid tight and punches hard with EL34’s.I think the KT88 version of the UU was the issue for you. I had an Original. As far as i know it's the same as an Rev 2 except for the Gain Taper. The Presence behaved like a normal Presence. Is this also true for the Rev 2?OP, have you tried a Rev Green/2 version yet? It may be what you're looking for. My Rev 2 is more aggressive, organic, and 3D than the Rev Blue I owned.
Thanks!Owned an EL34 Rev blue but never a 6L6, but IMHO the 6L6 Rev blue isn't gonna be much different. Many will have a different opinion and maybe I'm the minority, but tubes are gonna be like a 1%-5% change in anything heard or felt under the fingers. I have spent more time/money on tube swaps on more amps than I care to divulge...LOL...and it's so minimal to me I gave up many amps ago.
We all here perceive differently and maybe my senses are fucked from things I won't talk about...LOL! But I just never hear/perceive more than a marginal change (good or Bad) from one tube to the next in the same amp. I've had amps where I tried KT88, 6550, KT90 all in the same amp and EL34, KT77, E34L in the same amp, no significant difference. Same for preamp tubes, marginal to me and eq or speakers have infinitely more effect.
Maybe if the 6L6 Rev Blue is designed from the ground up with that power section in mind (which sounds like it is) it may sound/feel a little different, but my guess...still talking 1%-5% perceivable. Maybe if I had both an El34 & 6l6 version side by side A/Bing back & forth I'd eat my words.
While this is a reasonable argument, speaking for myself only, I have found over the years that all amps aren’t created equal (obviously) and they all respond differently to tube swaps.Owned an EL34 Rev blue but never a 6L6, but IMHO the 6L6 Rev blue isn't gonna be much different. I here ya, and you, and everyone else, has their own perceptions which are completely valid. I see the affect of tubes more of a subjective thing, we're all gonna hear/feel differently. You're also spot on regarding volume for sure and I'll say up front I'm not playing live or even in a band, but I've exercised the many many amps I've spun through over the years and the tube swap experiments on all of them at everything from bedroom>small venue>stadium level volumes. While this is a reasonable argument, speaking for myself only, I have found over the years that all amps aren’t created equal (obviously) and they all respond differently to tube swaps.
Preamp tubes in the first gain stages make big differences IMO. Not just a gain amount difference, but a difference in the higher frequencies that can make or break the liveliness in the amp. NOT A GLEN FRICKER EXPERIMENT WHERE HE EXPECTS TO TURN A 5150 INTO A MARSHALL SOUND. A circuit is still a circuit.
Power tubes are more responsible for feel and clarity. You’ll only notice the difference if you actually play your amp loud like it’s designed and supposed to operate. I lm sorry but there are more bedroom players here and every other forum for that matter that care to admit it and expect all these changes when playing at whisper to tv volumes. Not gonna happen. And I’m not accusing you Mike of such a thing. You could be in a band for all I know.

The Power-Amp Voicings seemed to be off. I liked the middle position the best. But it was also pretty scooped, so i raised (brought back) the Density knob from full to three quarters, that brought some mids back.
The Blue with the E34L compressed nicely and thick when i turned it up back then. But it also wasn't the best Amp in a Band Setting.
I don't know.
Right now i'm perfectly happy with the 2203. I actually have it pretty much dialed in like a Bogner. Thick, full, warm, woody and punchy.
And i payed 850.-€ for the 2203. That's pretty cheap, even for Europe.
Diezel Hagen + Case for 1600.- paypaled and shipped somehow sounds like the better Deal for me.
But then i would have at least 2 Channels i would never use. And i probably wouldn't be able to decide whether i use Channel 3 or Channel 4 for my main sound.
Here's a Hagen Clip of me. Long time ago. Straight in with passive Pickups in a Shop with my Guitar. I remember it being quite loose.
But also thick and full. Cab was an ENGL i think. I don't know if it takes boosts well...but i would need one for sure.
