John,

Way cool. I went to the web page and hit the demo. That is the sound. It sounds a lot like what I get out of my Zen into the Bassman. Another side note. VAN WILKS on the demo!!! YES! He guests on our upcoming 3 Mile Stone release & yes I know I've been talking about it for 2 years, thanks for reminding me. Van is a South Texas icon, one of my guitar heros. He plays on a track called Tres Dethos, that's Three Fingers for all you gringos and we swap leads back & forth. That was a real treat for me.

Any way that thing sounds great! Is it as loud as the Zen? The Zen just pummels the front end of my Bassman. It is loud, loud, LOUD!

Yeah, that clip sounds so thick and juicy, I'm like reaching for my steak knife. Cool coincidence with Van - look foward to eharing the album! I learned about the pedal from David Phillips at LA Sound Design who recommended it for me. David knows gear and pedals as well as anyone I know. I was really struggling to get the tone right on the first few scenes into my Minnemann album. So much so, that I actually started to re-track some stuff. I was trying to get a more personalized version of that elusive Dumbley-schmubley tone, but more of a southwestern version of it that is a little hairier and more rural sounding - fingerstyle electric with an edge and light sparkle and complex overtones on the 6th double stops. The Precision into the Eggie BMan was my final solution after tons of experimenting. The best speakers ended up being Emi Texas Heat (of course).

As far as clean boost goes. It's got a ton. I only have it at 11:00 and it's a bit past unity!!!

I think my BB Preamo is unreal into the Bassman....gives me huge Marshall tones, very AC/DC to Van Halen and beyond. Very transparent and real, responsive to the guitar's volume. If it wasn't on my board, I would think I was just playing through my amp and not a pedal into my amp. Very, very loud also. I can't get it past 1/4 up. Great british tones.

Now I have to try the Precision or Multi drive along with the Holy Fire. UGH! Too much to try. Although I love the BB and if it aint broke.....

What are you guys talking about that is thick and juicy and is THE tone? Was there a clip I missed? :aww:

Nice thing about the BB is that it doesn't loss any low end like some overdrive pedals. Not sure about the Precision or Holy Fire.

Yea that's true and it doesn't take much to turn your clean channels into a clean lead sound either. It's just a great pedal all around. I really like the AC a lot too, but it's better for smoother, lush OD and it does not cut on stage like the BB does. I always hear good stuff about the AC Booster as well. Those Exotic guys have it going on. I wish they would expand and bring out some other pedals too, like chorus and a compressor from them would be unreal I bet.

I would love to add the Precision to my collection. I'm gonna look for one at the Guitar Show in Arlington.

3 Mile, I think the BB is pretty touch sensitive. I just got mine!!!!! Do you have the Zen with the tube?

Nope, it's the regular old Zen Drive. Paid way too much for it during the shortage and hype days. It delivers though. Not good at all through Marshall type modules, but put it into a Fender style and step back. You will not believe it. I could do an entire gig with a B'man module (A&B) a Zen and my volume knob.

Would love to know how the Precision compares to the BB. It would have to have as much beef. One problem though is it does not have amid control so if you turn up the bass, you loss some mids.

Me & Van.

Not so sure about the BB any longer. I can't really find a true use for it. I don't really like it for rhthym, only lead so it is kind of limiting. It is very tight and focused but not as big sounding for rhythm. Fun to kick on at home for some leads, but I jammed with some guys the other day and could't fit it in anywhere. Maybe there is something better out there, like the XTS Presicion Drive.

If you are getting rid of it, I was looking at picking one of those up.

Valtiel, you will LOVE the BB with your COD. Get it!

Haha, stop helping me spend my money!!

On a serious note, the only real demos ive heard of the BB are more of the "dirt coming from the pedal into a clean channel" type tone. I think they all sound beyond great, but I was just wondering if thats the approach you used with the BB into the COD, of if you used more of a "clean " boost type of setting.

I think I am just looking for something a bit more natural with the Egnater. I am going to check out the Creation Audio Labs Holy Fire or the Wampler Effects PlexTortion or Pinnacle. I am betting the Holy Fire is most natural based on my experience with the MK boost.

I use it to take the COD, set pretty clean with a little breakup if i dig in hard, into seriously blues overdrive territory. Not sure how it would fare as a clean boost. Id recommend the RC for that.

Personally I just want more transparency. I think I'll be selling the BB and looking at the Wampler Pinnacle or Creation Audio Labs Holy Fire.

Rich, I know it sounds cheezy, but give the new Dano Cool Cat Transparent O/D a try. I picked one up and really like it. True bypass and it's very transparent. And cheap too, so you won't be out much $$ if you don't like it!!

i hate all of you raving about the bassman module.

i wanted so desperately to have my tol 100 ch 2 sound exactly like the bassman module,

or the COD

or the vox

Before I get to the meat of this post, has anyone done the following comparisons?
BB vs. BB+? The review on the Xotic site says the BB+ with channel B is more modern and bigger sounding. Really?
BB vs. Precision Overdrive ?

OK, I was doing some browsing around the net looking for overdrive boxes, etc and saw some saying that running the BB or any similarly priced boost or distortion box into an amp like the Egnater is like puting a chevy engine into a Ferarri. I have to disagree. I thikn that is arrogant nonsense.

I first though having a boost like the BB would give me a bette rlead tone over my modules like the SL2 but I still prefer the stock SL2 just boosted in volume by my MK Boost for leads. I even tried a good EQ in the loop and that took over too much of the tone. The natural tone of these amps s so good I think they can easily be EQ'ed for both rhythm and lead....but adding a boost to me only works for lead. But again, I find it too compressed and not as big sounding as the stock modules. I'd be curious if anyone found a good EQ like the Barber EQ Burn or MXR for the loop of the Egnater and if it worked.

Now, what I thought was that I could use the BB as a another tone all together, like another module! That is what I am now finding. I am running the BB with the gain up high running into the Bassman channel A and it sounds great! Close my eyes and it sounds like a new module! Doesn't sound bad or subpar as some would suggest. Sounds smooth and tube like - heck it is running through a tube amp, LOL! I almost like channel A with the BB more than channel B of the BMann. Sound sgood for classic rock and blues to some modern rock like power pop or something like AFI. Not, super gainy however. For that I have my other modules, LOL.
It even sounds good into channel B of the Bassman, but it really is like having a new module and has stopped some of the GAS for a COD and Vox.
