Boosted Bassman??????

One thing I have to remember is that the higher gain modules have plenty of saturation and give for anything so I don't feel any need for a boost on those channels or modules. However, I love having a boost available to ht channel B of the Bassman for another flavor. With the right module it can be like having another module. Problem is finding a pedal that works with the amp and sounds like an amp and not like a pedal slapped on top of your amp. The BB is great.

However, I am ordering a Fulltone OCD based on the comments I have hears about it and clips I have heard it sounds so natural. I'll give a report. I can't see spending too much on a pedal so these are in the range.

The BB is great, the OCD is very good but has it's one tonal color, I think the BB is more nuetral and less imposing, but try the OCD. It's a great pedal for sure and everyone should have one in their arsenal. Other than that the only one I found that got into the same ball park was the Barber LTD SR, Very adjustable and allowed the amp module to still sound like itself while pushing up the volume and gain a little. I still think the BB is the ultimate "3rd channel" on an Eg module.

Thanks for the comments bro. Since you have tried so many, that means a lot. I have it tweaked to where it doesn't sound like a pedal and instead sounds like a tighter version of my Bassman channel B.

Others I would still love to try are the Ocean EFX Pearl Drive and XTS Precision Overdrive! Try those?

I think if I had an E2, I'd never use a pedal anyway, LOL.

I was outbid on the OCD so maybe I'll just be content with the BB.

No, Van had the Precision Drive on his board when he came in to do those tracks but he didn't use it that night, he used his Bad Monkey. His demo on the web page is really good sounding though, and if John digs it well there you go, it's gotta be sounding purty. I really, really want to try one. Strikes me as being somewhere in between the BB and a Zen Drive which would be a pedal that I could REALLY dig. I'm hoping someone has one at the Arlington Guitar Show on the 20th to try out.

Other pedals I did try in my "which pedal in the lot of $700 worth sounds the most natural like a third Egnater channel" pedal shootout were the Xotic AC Boster, MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe and the Fulltone Fat Boost 2.

The Fat Boost 2 (the red one) did a good job, just not as good as the Barber or the BB, but it could serve duty as a channel 3.

MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe was more of an ultra tweakable TS9 Screamer variety. Good, just not a "third channel" contender. Lot's of low end compression on this one. It would be spectacular on a tight and bright Fender amp or a TD module. Not so good when combined with the already somewhat compressed nature of most Eggie modules like teh EG and Bassman that I use.

AC Booster was sort of the same but compressed less on the low end than the MI Blues Boy. I did keep this pedal just becuase it is awesome. It does not have it's own spot on my board, but can deliver the best TS9 Screamer sounds available IMO. Run a AC into the EG3 and you will achieve some specfookingtacular Eric Johnson, Chandler Tube Driver into 100 watt Plexi tones. FEE nominal.

I have not heard about the Pearl Drive.

I know Scott Henderson is a big Precision Drive user. There is also the Multi drive. Joe Bonamassa is big on the Pearl Drive.

I use the BB mostly on the Bassman module and I do actually find the BB to be compressed! Maybe I need to get the volume up more on the BB. Volume issues are tough and I am trying to keep my channel volume higher, but that can be tough because I already have the Bassman channel A cranked for clean.

Interesting on the AC! But, I barely have room for the BB as is! LOL.

I know some guys I love (their tone) use the Pearl and Precision but man I was getting close to nailing those with the BB tonight.

Nice demo:

I know the OCD can run at 18 volts. I wonder if the BB would have lots more clarity and hearoom at 18 volts. I always wonder about that and how some companies make their pedals to only use their proprietary power supply units. Wonder if it makes a huge difference.

Don't forget about the Jetter GSR and Fulltone Fulldrive.
