Broken knob huh 🙄

Reverb buyer wants to return an item that arrived with a mysteriously broken knob. I'm not going to be specific here, but the item in question is as heavy duty as gear gets, was packed well and the box showed no shipping damage. It was the only knob in a row of knobs as well. It was of course shipped intact.

I think it's BS and he just doesn't want it. What's your story with these situations and how have you handled and prevented going forward?

depends on whether the pots are board mounted to a PCB or chassis mounted. If chassis mounted give him $75 for tech costs and it’s super easy. If board mounted it’s claim time.

Claim with who? There's no apparent damage to the box and I don't see how anything could have broken this one knob shaft off alone anyways, and without leaving damage on the box especially.

I know you don't want to say what it is / was ..... but it would sort of help with forming a game plan to deal with it ...

this is the kind of shit why I don't sell on the Verb anymore

Unethical buyers leave sellers in bind. I can't say for sure but I'm 99% positive that he broke it cuz he doesn't want it. Either way I don't see why I should be responsible for something that was damaged after I shipped it as described. I have documentation. And there is no way the carrier will take responsibility here as there is no visible damage to the box itself. I don't understand why reverb policies should be biased in favor of the buyer, so this is probably it for me as well.

You'll have to take the amp back and refund him, unfortunately. Unless he agrees to a partial refund, and gets the broken pot fixed on his own.

My one experience with a buyer who was fn with me, was a Vintage Modern I sold 12 yrs ago. He said it arrived safe but was 'making a noise'. Hmm. Ok. I offered to send him some new pre tubes to try; but he wanted a partial refund to have his 'tech' fix the 'problem'. While I was thinking about a response, this clown had listed it for re sale at 300$$ more than what I sold it for lol....literally half a day after he received it, also on Ebay. I opened up a case, and after that called his bullshit out. He then deleted two pics that showed the serial # so he could say 'different amp'. But, I'd already downloaded the pics and his ad, in the end Ebay told him to pound sand.
Assholes are everywhere.

All good points OP

And that’s one of many reasons I don’t have a reverb account anymore.

I feel like if there’s damage to the item and it’s not the sellers fault or the shipping companies fault, then reverb should eat it once. If a buyer does it again their account is banned no questions asked.

It shouldn’t fall on the sellers shoulders due to the shipping company obviously denying the claim. Reverb has no skin in the game and you’re left with a fucked amp.

Also the exact reason why I stopped using reverb. Doesn't matter what you say, what your listing says or anything else. If reverb says you're accepting the return and refunding, that is what you'll do.

Unless you close your payment source account or have them block reverb of course. (Many will think this is unethical but why should YOU be the one to take it up the ass because of their bs?)

My guess is he didn't like the amp and/or went through a lot of trouble to get a free replacement knob for his amp at your expense.

Reverb has gone to shit and definitely turned into FreeGearTrial.com.

The "can I get a partial refund" move is mostly a scam nowadays. I second your recommendation to make him ship it back and then refund him. At least then he has to get off his scamming ass and ship it instead of just waiting to get some cash kicked back. Make them work for their scams.

This is why I won't sell expensive gear reverb. Sorry about your situation.

What is the amp?

Given the OP's history on lying, twisting, warping, and manipulation I would guess that he's a scammer and is lying here as well.

I would never do business with them.
If they are comfortable gaslighting, lying, and manipulating regular conversation without shame, well they should be called out.
Given his past comments when he rarely participates on the main forum, I don't believe he even plays the guitar either as his knowledge is surface level at best.

I think all the people with "well-known member" status on here need to arrange a meet and greet where we all books rooms in the same hotel, then meet up and just have a big ass free for all brawl in the ring like Royal Rumble and we can settle our differences there. Or we can just bodyslam people for kicks. Either way, everyone wins.

That hotel would reek of farts.
