If the box was dropped and landed flat on the bottom or top it would not show damage to the box but the weight of the knob could cause the shaft to snap. Maybe.

If I recall the attenuator knob is bigger and so it's possible that it was somehow the only one affected. But there was space and padding around the unit and I think if it was going to be dropped that hard there would have to be some evidence on the box. Certainly an indentation at least on the inside, which I haven't been able to examine.
