Cables & Plugs

I don't find the Canare GS to be lacking in treble at all.

That's one road I don't want to go down - cable crazyness.

The GS6 is moderately priced, sounds good, and is durable and flexible. Combined it with some Neutriks... I'm done. No more searching for me.

The madness has to stop somewhere for me. I have to draw SOME sort of line.

Carnare has more capacitance than a lot of cables which for me is a good thing. I love them because they don't make my Tele's sound over bright. I also refuse to go down the cork sniffer cable road. I have a friend that has over $500 in his pedalboard and guitar cables. He also has a $200 power cord for his amp

I've tried George L's for actual instrument cables, and something always seems thin about it. I've heard that although they do have added brilliance, they lack some bass and beef of some other cables. Don't know if there's truth in that...

Here I go... look at me... sniffin' cable cork!!!!

evidence audio cable, if you have the $$
otherwise, mogami 2524, 2552, or 2528.

plugs are whatever.. switchcraft, neutrik, or horizon plugs.

Is Canare better than Mogami? Or are they relatively similar at that price range?

no.

differences:

mogami:
1. thicker outer jacket
2. more "rubbery" feel
3. shield is silver stuff and not woven

Canare:
1. Thinner outer jacket
2. More satiney feel
3. Shield is copper and woven.

Why I would use Canare over Mogami:
1. It feels better
2. Solder sticks to the copper really easily.

Why I would use Mogami over Canare:
1. Easier to strip
2. REALLY nice to not have to unweave the shield

IMO, they sound REALLY close, and are comparatively priced.

it's DEFINITELY personal preference here.  (FWIW, I like Canare)

+1. I have cables I made from both Canare and Mogami. The difference in tone/feel in my rigs is pretty much nil. If I wanted to sniff the cable cork, I'd say the Canare is a tiny bit rounder on the top end, but YMMV.
I've been using Mogami lately because I found a local source with great pricing. Both have excellent sound and performance.

That's going the be the title of my debut guitar instrumental album (which will never, ever actually happen)

Nick Pierro - Sniffing the Cable Cork

Junior apprentice cable cork sniffer here
This is actually a pretty interesting thread for me. I have George L's on my pedal board and they sometimes pop if they move or sometimes I have to wiggle one to get things up and running again. I probably did something wrong putting them together. Anyway, I want to roll my own and after reading all of this, I have two questions:
1) I'll get Canare cable and use the GS6 for at least the guitar lead, however, does it make sense to jump down to the GS4 for the pedal board since it appears to be a little bit more flexible? Or should I just go GS6 all the way and don't worry about it?
2) I know Neutrik has a good rep, but haven't heard about G&H too much and wonder if one or the other is easier to work with or built better?

Anyone tried the silent plug for the guitar lead (ok, that is three questions)?
