Love their guitars, not too crazy about their pickups.

Sorry to hear they got robbed.

I don't know that their PUs used to sound like, but now a days, they sound really good.

When I got my 1st Carvin, I had a set of Dimarzio 36th Anniversay PAFs waiting ahead of time so I could change them as soon as my Carvin arrived.

When I got my guitar, the original PUs sounded so good I left them in.

Why so much hate for Carvin?

They make guitars as good as any boutique company out there, including Suhr, Anderson etc.

You can't buy them in any store & have to order direct, but so what?

My guess is that most people hating on carvin have never even seen one in person, yet alone played one.

Yes, the resale value is not great, but does that make them poor quality guitars?

I have 3 Carvins & they're amazing, well built, quality guitars. On par with my Suhrs, Andersons, Fender customs shop guitars etc etc.

I don't get it.

Word.

My friends dad has some custom Carvins and they play as good as anything else. People are just stupid corksniffers.

For me they just all have something that just looks a bit off. And I don't really care for any of their headstocks

I personally think Carvin does themselves a disservice by only selling direct. It means that not many can try before they buy unless they live in SoCal.

I have played 2 Carvins, an 80's one that was great and one from about 2007, that I didn't dig at all in terms of sound or feel. I think if I could try out more, I might have a different opinion, but with the poor resale buying Carvin is a very big risk.

I seem to see 2 types of people. Carvin fans and Carvin haters. For whatever reason, Carvin brings passionate opinions.

I agree with you. If Carvin was available in stores, they would be a lot more popular. However, the price would rise dramatically if they went retail.

As much as I love Suhrs & Andersons, some of their prices are ridiculous. You can get a comparable Carvin for much less & this is strictly due to their direct order pricing.

They have a great return policy which I've taken advantage of once, so it's not a loss if you don't like your Carvin.

We were lucky enough to briefly have a Carvin store locally for awhile. As soon as I got to go play them, I knew it was time to have them build one for me. $1,500 for a 100% ground up custom shop guitar built in the USA? Amazing!

Sad to hear they were burglarized.

I plan on having them build another one pretty soon. Vader 7, multi scale :)

Carvin quality was top notch several years ago when I had them build this for me. I hear it's dramatically improved since then. They split from Carvin Audio, and they've been seriously stepping up their game.

My apologies for the low quality pix & lighting, all I've got is an iPad

This is very true. I shake my head at people who write off Carvins/Kiesels for no good reason, and, I can't spend any time on their board because the fan-bois are out of their minds.

That said, I've seen the resale values come up a bit especially when it comes to Kiesels and Kiesel-Edition guitars. The upside with the brand is, if you love the guitar, then you're able to get stupid value from their custom shop because no other comes close in terms of price. I had a few Carvins 8-9 years ago and they were all very nice. I don't have them anymore. My 2 Kiesels though definitely have the quality that puts them on par with just about anybody.

Never.

I agree about the headstocks though. Not a fan. The one on my Bolt is the "best" they have IMO but still not great. I just put the guitar down after playing for a while through my DSL and I have to say, it's fucking great.

Custom color that Kiesel doesn't do anymore without an upcharge, SS jumbo frets, Luminlay side dots, Lithium pickups, Floyd with a killer gig-bag, all for $1100. If I were Kiesel, I'd try to hire some "real" pickup pros to get some real vintage stuff in house or just offer to put in Dimarzio, Duncans, etc.

Looks like they weren't robbed in the sense that we think. Jeff updated that they were victims of international fraud, and got six of the guitars back.

Then get one without a headstock!!! I absolutely LOVE my Vader. Best guitar I have owned

Jeff Kiesel just posted a video on FB that they lost 16 guitars amounting to $40K. All serial numbers and pictures are available. HE is offering $5K or a Kiesel built by him for any information that aids in the investigation.
