Seriously, nothing thins out tone more than isolating the cab from the floor.

I was jamming on friday with another player. My Egnater seminar head with 6550's through a theile EVM12L 1x12 just absolutely slayed, but it almost didn't.

It has casters, but I just laid the thing on its side, and voila, mass destruction with a 1x12.  :D

more of a bitch to cart around without the casters though

yeah, but that's why we must lay our cabs down sideways.

Buying a furniture dolly is also cheaper than buying 4 casters.

I've always wondered why guys do that. I'll have to try it sometime.

I really love it when my cab is coupled to the average room's shittastic acoustics.

I have never seen a thiele with casters??? ...its not like it is to heavy?

ah, clever girl, so close to the way you're going to catch Buffalo Bill.

Check it out. 1/2 thiele, half 3/4 back.

Depends on the tone you dig playing with I guess.
With a nice sounding combo, I usually like it either tilted back a bit or even lifted right off the floor.

Too much bass = "meh" for me....too muddy, just fights with the bass player out front anyway.

I agree.

+1 I just don't think you need that much bass? Unless you're the bass player. A bass player's rig can really make/break a band's overall sound IMO. Really important.

How much chunk are you looking for while playing Little Fighter

I agree, except if you have a good PA it doesn't fight with the bass player out front at all - the bass player completely covers it up.

I have a long standing agreement with our bass player - he won't try to make his bass sound like a guitar and I won't try to make my guitar sound like a bass. It has worked well so far.

But it's still there, and the room acoustics take hold where the AUDIENCE is standing, possibly destroying the mix. And how many people or venues really have truly good PAs? I've seen maybe...one.

You aren't going to hear it, so just don't have it there.

Ahhh...words of wisdom for sure. :D

I agree and Ive talked to Clay Finley about it as well. Its not that Im looking for more bass neccessarily.. It just feels different IMO.

Ive also mentioned that I feel you get increased sustain when the cab is on the floor. Most people think Im crazy when I mention that but its something I noticed with my rig.

One of the casters in my JCM 900 is totally stripped, and I replaced the plastic thing the caster screws into, and then that stripped about a week later.

I just said screw it and havent bothered replacing it again. But I doubt I will anyways because it just sounds better without.

And BTW you guys are saying a cab without casters can cause too much bass and muddy up the mix?

Well you have to remember that we are thinking highgain heads and not Super Basses.

I was thinking that too

I get a fuller, richer sound with more sustain as well.

I don't feel or hear it getting muddier really.
