Silver dragons are higher gain Chinese tubes that as supposed to be low noise floor as well. I have a few silver dragons that test crazy high gain.

Are the Silver Dragons just Shuguang 121ax7 B instead of A?

I honestly don't know how they label them. The ones I have say silver dragon on them. I'm sure they have several different labels for them.

I had one silver dragon that tested 132%.

I've used a few NOS ones from the 80's and 90's from the closed Beijing factory.
They have a square foil getter, not halo.
Nice sounding tubes, I buy em from dougs tubes.

$30 for a $9 tube. Good for Doug!

Same could be said for any NOS tube.

I get the Sino 12AX7's from a seller on E-Bay. $8 a tube and they're tested. They sound great in my JSX and XXX.

HG, HG+ refer to grade, not gain. Grade being the level of QC testing. It's all bullshit. Balanced, low noise, etc. Mostly bullshit too. None of this refers to 8th Gen 12AX7-C's though.

I have collected quite a stash of Mesa labeled 8th Gens as well as a load of brand new, unlabeled 8th gens. Put them on a tester, they all test consistent with gain, balance, low noise and transconductance. That's the real number you want to look at. They are much smoother, less brittle than any new production 9th generation with the sales gimmicks from Ruby, JJ, Tung Sol, etc.

When you see them for sale in lots of 20 in the original shipping cartons, grab them all.

I have an older Sencore tester thats pretty acurate and I have not seen anywhere close to 130 on the meter! I'm pretty intrigued by the description of these but I have only found one place that has them that actually says Silver Dragon by name, but they are just labeled 12ax7B. "Shuguang 12AX7B is sometimes labeled as 12AX7, but it's the same tube. Please note that recent version of 12AX7B comes with grey coating on anode." Thats directly from the site so I'm hoping if I ask around enough I will find out if they are the same as a standard 12ax7B.

I have 100’s of the 8th generation 12ax7’s. They are tested on my maxi-matched testers. How many are you looking for?
Hi Dave,

do you still have any of these Chinese 8th gen 12ax7s available?(6N4-J)

I have two Silver Specials I purchased from Lord Valve back in the day to put in my ADA MP-1.

They're fat bottle with some silver parts inside (don't have a pic in front of me).

Great stuff!
