Saw Death at a small club in Baton Rouge in the mid/late 90s. They were on the Symbolic tour. Actually, got to talk to Chuck before the show at the bar. He was a super cool dude. We shot the shit for about 20 minutes. I was just getting into more extreme metal. He was very gracious with his time and was a soft-spoken guy. They put on a great show.
Really interesting watching Chuck and his band go from the old days of the demos all the way to the (Watchtower-influenced) SOP and Control Denied days near the end. RIP. A couple of favorites, here :
1st 3 are hall of fame albums.
Leprosy being the pinnacle.
Spiritual Healing was another masterpiece with some of the finest trade off solos.
Not really a death metal band near the end of his career imo.
RIP Chuck ?
Death was one of the few bands whose albums got better towards the end, that's saying something about Chuck as he was the sole constant member of the band IIRC.
