Hello folks, I'm new to Rig Talk - hope to get to know you all soon.

I build guitars out of my small shop in Kentucky, and I am currently doing a build for forum member Dallas Marlow. http://www.dallasmarlow.com/
We both thought it would be a cool idea to cover the build process in pictures, step by step, so he and everyone else can see everything that goes into his custom guitar.

I hope anyone interested in the build process enjoys this thread as it develops, and if you've got any questions at all - fire away!

Here are the specs:

5 piece neck-thru (flame maple/mahogany/wenge/mahogony/flame maple)
Mahogony body wings
Flame maple carved top
Flame maple headstock cap
Mann-Made 1 piece Paul Reed Smith style vibrato bridge
Seymour Duncan pickups (to be determined)
Ebony fretboard w/ offset dots
25.5" scale, 24 jumbo frets.

The body style is identical to this guitar, which is a former build of mine:

First up is making the neck blank.

Here I have selected the boards that will be used.

Sawing to the proper width:

Marked up for resawing. No fence - I prefer to freehand 'em.

Wenge resawn to just oversize to be brought to 3/8" in the planer.

Mahogany resawn, I will be using both pieces, reversed, on either side of the wenge.

Here are the neck laminates ready for glue. Also you can see the mahogany board which will make up the body wings:

I really like that...pointy and curvy..nice job!

You must have an awesome dust extraction system... unless you tidy up prior to taking pictures.

I have pounds of dust flying when I get to whittlin'.

Can't wait to see some more progress on this soon... watching a guitar being built is just freggin fun.

What's the ball park price on one of these?

I'm not sure what his going rate is currently it's best to PM Will with what you want, and he'll give you a quote, he's pretty quick about it and very helpful!
