Neck carved, still rough sanded:

Breaking the corners of the fret slots so the frets seat better:

Tapping in the fret ends to prepare them for pressing:

Frets pressed in, checking them with a fret rocker for any high spots. Sometimes you need to do a little hammering too. These are checking perfect right now:

After fretting, I do a little more fine tuning of the neck shape. I've got this one right where I want it and it feels great:

Checking at the first fret, these templates are taken from a neck I really love:

I wiped a little naphtha on because I wanted to see how those woods were going to contrast with a little finish on there:

Gluing on the body wings:

I'm planning to glue on the top tomorrow and this weekend work on the carve and all of the final machinework on the body.

Haha, you know watching this thing be put together is just something spectacular Will - I can't wait till your guitars start to really blow up and I have one of the original models, will hopefully be an heirloom for my family some day. One things for damn sure, if it ever gets stolen it'll be really easy to identify... has anyone ever low-jacked a guitar?

Thanks guys. I am in Owensboro.

Wow, my parents own a music publishing co. in Owensboro. Went there once - frickin' freezing. Nice Axe!

You can lojack a guitar, and Carvin has a microchip id system too, snatch I think it's called.

A shot of the back since I dont think I've posted one yet:

Carving lines layed out and starting work with the grinder:

After a great deal of smoothing with a random orbit sander, I move to hand sanding:

Sanded to shape. The top looks bland because the rough finish obscures the figure. I won't bother with any finish sanding until everything else is done:

Damn Will this thing looks amazing - it's really starting to take shape!!!

Laying out the carving on the back:

Hit with the grinder, now on to sanding:

Also cut some of the cavities:

Great job and extra  factor by going old school with a grinder, most mass producers would not even know how to do that ;)

Very, very cool. I'm totally addicted to build threads here and elsewhere and have been spending all my gear money on tools lately...

Damn, I don't know that this thing will get here fast enough!!!! I'm so stoked to get it - it's well worth the wait that is for damn sure!!!

Seriously Will!!! I can't wait man - it's getting so close; I'm going to get in a fight with the nitro finish because that dirty son of a bitch wont cure fast enough!!! :gethim: :gethim: :gethim:

This puts my "hey guys, I put together a warmoth" thread to shame.

This is just such a great documentation of a cool guitar coming to life. Love these kinds of things! :2thumbsup:
