Death Magnetic Hetfield GW interview controversy!

Dude, I've been to around 50 shows between 03 and 08 - I know I'm correct. ;)

hey, easy scott.... don't have to get cocky....

Maybe you were "inside" the metallica camp for a while which is great... but you're not James, nor Kirk, nor Zack......hell, they could be telling everyone 'tallica doesn't have a contract, while the reality might be something else.....only THEMSELVES know the real deal. So, lets calm down, you seem to know a thing or two about metallica and their world, but only Lars an the boys know EVERYTHING (I bet Zach knows everything too   )

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if they were simply trying to cover up what they are actually using on the record...some people just don't want others to know what they are using to get certain sounds! EVH used to throw people off by saying he used certain gear in interviews, when really he didn't, he just didn't want people copying his sound. Those who dig deep enough know that James uses a VH4, but the general public or average fan probably have no clue. Who knows? I can't confirm or deny whether Metallica is sponsored by Mesa, but considering how often I've seen them with Recs around I'd be surprised if they weren't...

All I know is that I'm disappointed with the guitar sound on the new record, because I think my VH4 sounds a lot thicker than that! Now if only I could get it recorded well :)

i´ve been playing with metallica in spain 4 years ago( saint anger´s tour), and there was a lot of boogie heads empty only with a green led light inside. the sound comes via the vh4 and the triaxis plus a roland head for cleans.

people like metallica can play anything they want, and they have almost all the new gear on the headquarters. if one day james is trying out a randall head or a krank, and someone takes a picture...there´s no reason for think that he is recording with.

only he knows what he is using, the engineer...maybe rick rubin( i dont think that rick rubin care about this really), the guitars in the new cd sounds very old way, so the mark II+, is not so crazy thing...

i dont know why james doesnt sell all the stuff, buy a couple of herberts and blow up our heads...

peter, send to him 2 herberts( paying, of course   )

ciao

Saludos hombre!

Man, all I can say is I HEAR Diezel on that record as the main rhythm sound. I've had/have Boogies, Marshalls, Diezel, Orange etc and they all have a distinct tone and although I've never even seen a VH4, I have a Herbert and had an Einstein. Diezel has their thing and that thing is on Death Magnetic.

Fun mis fact: During EVH'S PV days, he used dummy 5150s and had a Marshall behind it all.......

Neither James nor Kirk have an endorsement with Mesa. Fact.

James uses the T-verb in the tuning room for ease of setup. Zach is a busy man...

are you sure? there were shitlaods of dual rectis on stage a few times i saw them. also mesa lists james + kirk + robert as dual recti users on their homepage, and metallica.com equipment list also states mesa products only - sounds like endorsement to me.

Errrr! Not True. Andy Timmons lists Mesa Boogie Amps on his site...and also Mesa lists him on their Site. However, I recently went to a clinic where Andy himself said he does not have a contract with Mesa -- could use any amp brand he wants, but chooses Mesa......so you have errr'd in that assumption.

 2 different stories.

Maybe I'll get a slightly biased responce here...

But a few Mesa's on stage, or real Diezels covering the place? What's going to look/sound better?

search cyanide live at late night show with Holland
I see those amps involved are Mesa

Again, it boils down to logistics. They have a travelling rig they use in the tuning room and at these events, and it consits of Mesas...they're not playing thru them at such events.

Hence the ;) - it wasn't meant cocky. :)

Thanks for clarifying that scott, and not do diss, but you do come off condescending some times here......... especially when it comes to metallica. I think that is one of the reasons you get a lot of flack on the ESP board. Just my opinion ;)

and yes the recto's are still on stage. Download the Banaroo show from Mission Metallica and you see clear as day two recto heads with the green lights. James or Robs? You see Rob's heads next to em. and of course non of the cabs are miced as you all know they have some isolation stuff.

Did you guys see this? Sorry if it was posted before:

Well, that's just the way I talk...can't help it, but most times it's not meant to be offensive at all....

Bonaroo was an exception btw...I have not seen any Rectos onstage since 2003 in about 50 shows I was at.

yeah even in the banaroo show just recent there are THREE recto's on stage but we have seen his rack and it is a comb of the VH4 and the Triaxis/2:90 rig.

Probably doing it just for fun or they "look" cool.................... Lame. I would love to see some VH4 heads and Diezel cabs. I have never been happier since i sold my two boogie 4x12's and have my two rear loaded Deetzuls with V30's and a Vh4 Mono hot rodded and my love of my life the VH4S...................I love that amp so much. Especially being a one guitar player band it fills the room when I have two cabs on each side. :)

Sample of the VH4S withe Ruby BSTR's
Live jam so sounds raw of course ;) (and our first time playing it so the bass is a little off ;) )

Sometimes it's not even in the bands hands - the organizer may have a contact with a certain company. Not saying that was the case at Bonaroo, but it's a possibility.
