No it's not - it's the correct in its historical context and correct today because they haven't apologised really and are unrepentant.
I seem to remember you being banned from a certain shitty website for using the term Jap.

Glad you're back. Old man. :p

I did extensive reading on the New Guinea campaign.
My 2nd uncle fought in the 41st.

He never spoke about it and everyone was afraid to ask.
So all I had was books.

What you say about your Japanese grandmother is not uncommon

After the bombs fell and Japan surrendered the US came in for the occupation period.

Many were in Japan for a long time waiting to get shipped home.

A quite a few fell in love and brought back Japanese woman.

I can understand that part.

What i cant figure out is how they turned off the gas after 4 horrible yrs of fighting.

Then both sides accepted the other like nothing happened.

I guess love truly does heel pain

My Grandmother's brother died fighting the US.
The youngest of my Grandfather's brothers died fighting the Japanese.
So, you're not wrong.

I feel like Japan pretty much didn't want to be under communist rule and were already fairly westernized in a lot of ways, so it probably was a bit easier to make peace than those dealing with a 1k+ year long holy war. At the same time my father and his brothers were terribly racist against my mother and her mother. Even against themselves in some ways because my other Grandmother is Cherokee. Strange world.

I was. That's because you yanks have different cultural norms and less freedom of speech :p. In Australia we have several places that do Japanese Car parts and replacement engines called Jap Spares! Obviously the whole Jap thing being derogatory is just some US cultural hang up.

Yeh nah, you racist Yanks just need to accept our socially acceptable racist terms, and while you are at it, start more wars! That'll solve it!

You can't deny we use it in our vernacular and even have business names using it. No problem with the term from my perspective.

We even measure our spirits in nips ;-)

Although I have "zero tolerance" for Jap fighter planes ;-)

My dad was a pilot on a B29, flying out of Andersen AFB. 315th bomb wing. He never talked about it. He was an alcoholic and we never really connected. Long story… Regardless, I found a bunch of pictures and his military records after he died. One in particular is from the nose of his B29 over Tokyo Bay after the Japanese surrendered. Sure wish I could have heard the first-hand accounts…
Look at this guy…good to see you!
