You guys are to fucking cool! Thanks so much for the words it means a bunch! :worship:
It's very hard to record Tool covers without messing up once, let alone recording it twice for stereo.

Mo,
I think I figure our the style by playing it until it sounds right...
I start with tabs for basic ruff draft, most of the time they are wrong...not alway the wrong notes but playing the notes on the wrong strings.
I will then try watching Adam live but most videos are terrible video quality. If I am really having a problem with a part thats just strange I will rewind the track 100 times until I figure it out.

It's all research and patience, the hardest for me is the patience.
Well, I'll say this.

Having watched and noted your progression of locating the elements of Adam's rig; your relentless questioning of tone, dynamics, speakers, etc.; your focus on all things "Tool", I can honestly say you are a very patient and dedicated cat. AND deliberate!! But it's obviously all paying off - because you're copping some of the best Tool'esque tones AND playing I've seen yet to date. And if this was your aim? Your pretty well bullseye.

Peace,
Uncle Mo

i can imagine it's hard to pick out all the parts and nuances in Adam Jones' stuff, especially on Lateralus where the guitar and bass are so intertwined, it's always cool to see how it's done and half the time you think wow i didn't realise that was the bass part

Holy crap, awesome job! Especially well done on the outro riff

What pickups are you using in that LP?

Damn! That is quite possibly the best Tool cover I have ever heard!!! You sir are the man!

I can't hear the backing track. yur guitar is too loud in the Mix

Rosetta Stoned sounds killer too, have you tried any of the old stuff with just the Marshall like Prison Sex ?

I am working on some old stuff here and there, I like playing the newer stuff more but I am starting to dig undertow more and more.

Damn, that's pretty spot on playing and tone man, nice work!

Yeah, I've run into the same thing where I can't always tell if what I'm hearing is the bass or guitar. Lateralus has some really cool role-reversials where the bass is playing a melody and the guitar is playing rhythm or even something resembling a bass line. Justin is a killer bass player with some serious writing skills.

And some killer head banging skills. Man, every time I see these cats in concert, Justin lays out the massive body throwing head banging for almost the entire show. Non-stop. Just like a rubbery human metronome.

The Rosetta Stoned cover is inspiring me to get back to running my JCM800 & MarkIV together.

I'm trying to pick up the differences between the two amps you used. The left channel (Marshall) has this 'woody', (almost merging on mud but not muddy to be boggy & cloudy) low mid sound, but is tight (doesn't flop around like a Recto).
The right channel (Diezel) is very deep and percussive in the low end, super chunky. It also projects a lot of the crunchy top end sizzle.
Great blend!

Did you add any effects at all to the right channel signal path? I don't know if it's just me but I hear this very slight, but yet sort of "enveloping" sound like the sound is swirling around within itself. It's not a "processed" sound at all, and can only really be heard when hearing the right channel in isolation. It's great whatever it is!

Same exact setup for both amps...same mic same pedal chain ect.
I even used the same speaker, with same mic positioning.

I wanted to make it sound as natural as possible.
