Disappointed with Egnater....

Jammers5......Spoke to Nate, your pedal was shipped USPS last week. Should be there any minute.
Oh and on the rich man idea.....I was lucky enough to trade my 93 "cash for clunkers" Jeep for a brand new KIA last year. My first new car! I think I deserve to be congratulated, don't you? The Ford dealer didn't want to bother with me so I went next door and discovered the KIA was a much nicer car for less money, and the American sales person wasn't rude. No one gets rich overnight. At least not in the real world. I'm sure still trying though.......after 30 years.

 I bought a Honda for my wife and it's been the best car I've ever owned,BTW,how does the KIA sound?????

I've had my Rebel 20 for roughly 6 months and also had zero problems. It a seriously great sounding amp and seems well built. I always slide the chassis out of any amp I buy the check out the build and design quality. It took something like the Rebel 20 to sway me from 40 years of Fender amps. I will never buy another current production Fender amp again.

Don't worry guys, the Chinese will very soon be owning us and all the production is going to be done here ;)

Sorry for the political joke, but I also work for a company that in order to be competitive, has to manufacture in Asia.

Hi Bruce and thank you for responding directly to my posts. I eagerly anticipate the arrival of my new footswitch and would love nothing more than to get it this week.

I hope that "rich man" comment wasn't directed at me - I never once implied that you were sitting on gobs of cash, although I hope that with all the work you put into your company you reap the rewards!

For those of you that beat up this equipment as "Chinese junk" you took this a lot further that it was intended in my original post. I don't feel and never implied in my posts that I was unhappy with the build quality of my amplifier. It's a footswitch, with wires, switches and plugs, and CAN fail, no big deal. My dissappointment was due to lack of response, or the "human" side of the company - and I hope that came through loud and clear in my OP.

I am sure I will be back to boasting about the tones of my Rebel 30 on here before long. It's funny, at the gig this weekend I got to talking to a few guitar players that came to the show, and naturally we got to talking about our gear etc. I kept coming back to the Egnater and telling em how great it sounded - even though I didn't have it with me!

No NO. It was Klark that made the comment earlier and, honestly, I don't take offense. I just don't like misconceptions, like I am getting rich, to be floating around. FYI, I am not hear to garner sympathy or make excuses. I just want you to understand that we are human and we will screw up. I understand designing and building cool stuff is only part of the equation. After the sale service is just as important (if not more so) and we are doing all we can to make that a great part of Egnater. We may have stumbled a bit but our goal is not only to make the coolest gear but also have great customer service.

I LOVE my M4, its the best piece of gear that I have ever purchased!

It HAS to be growing pains because I asked a question about my M4 they responded immediately.

As for the Mesa TROLL.... :gethim: ........if it's that good, why are you still "tonesearching"

PEACE!!!! :D

Hi,
just wanted to post my experience:

I have had a minor issue with my Egnater stuff half a year ago. The worst part of it was to determin what the faulty part was (it was a simple pot).
I had a couple of emails first with Jeff and then with Bruce Egnater and they responded imediately (within a couple of hours). Mr. Egnater even contacted Peter Diezel to take care of my problem, and Mr. Egnater sent me the layout of the device as PDFs right away.

I rarely had such a good and fast customer service yet (well, Diezel customer service is as good imho).

That is, what (at least) I will keep in my mind, when it comes to Egnater gear.

I have a Rebel 30 head, love the amp and tones, but back in December (one month old amp) the footswitch baffed out. I emailed Egnater and Nate responded very quickly to package up and send him the footswitch and he would send out a replacement. They received the footswitch the 3rd week of January, and I still don't have my replacement. I enquired two weeks ago via email to Nate and he did not respond. I also emailed this morning again, and still no response.

Sorry guys, but that's not good enough. To be honest, I don't want to hear excuses about how the amps are shipped from China, or there are bad tubes 3% of the time yadda yadda. This is purely a customer service issue. 2 weeks no response. 3 weeks since you received my foot switch. I should have it by now (I'm in Canada) I paid $17 to ship this footswitch back to you guys - as much as the footswitch is worth I'm sure! Maybe I should send you the bill for that too?

This is a real disappointment for me. I mean, I love the amp. It sounds incredible. What concerns me most is when the tube blew 2nd day I had it, I had two replacement tubes RUSHED to me and I received them in no time. This time, slow service and no response to my emails?

Take care of your customer!

This whole footswitch issue. Can the channels be changed with any old footswitch with a 1/4 inch plug? If so, why not just use that and stop being so bummed out about a footswitch. I am sure that Egnater will eventually get you a replacement if under warranty.

I own a Mesa Express 5:50 and the footswitch cable is attached to the amp on a really long cord. Lots of people bitch about it. My solution is not to even both with it and I use my own footswitch that I paid about $15 for. I just need the switch for clean / dirty. Medium distortion etc is handled by pedals.

Since we're talking about Egnater customer service,i'll do my part ;) When i bought my Rebel 20 (head) from the US,i Email'd Egnater to ask a few things (voltage etc.).John Ewing answered right back (maybe the next day?) and ,after that,we exchanged quite a few Emails. He was always very quick to answer and did everything to help me.

with regard to the whole chinese/foreign made vs. american made etc. thought some might find this informative and interesting.
From http://www.soldano.com/Soldano_Guitar_A ... Boards.htm
In the early days before circuit boards were designed, technicians relied on various "anchor points" to connect wires together. Primitive layouts consisted of terminal strips screwed to the chassis or even pieces of cardboard fitted with brass eyelets. Components and wiring were then soldered, point-to-point, to these terminals or eyelets to create the circuit. As time went on, clever technicians figured they could etch the wiring patterns into copper foil laminated to a strong and rigid phenolic board. The components could then be soldered directly to these copper "traces." This was the beginning of modern printed circuit (PC) boards. In modern boards, epoxy reinforced glass fiber replaces phenolic and more than one layer of copper is now possible. When using PC boards, precise part placement and consistent wiring is guaranteed.
I feel that point-to-point wiring is still very useful when designing an amplifier prototype or building a custom one-of-a-kind amp. It's quicker, easier, and cheaper to do than a one-off printed circuit board and it's generally easier to make circuit modifications when using this method. Well done point-to-point wiring is also very nice to look at—if you've ever seen the inside an early Hiwatt, you'll know what I mean.

In my opinion, however, it is far more cost effective and less labor intensive to use PC technology in a production environment. To the consumer, this means a better amp for less money. I believe that a guitar amp with well designed circuit boards is easier to work with, is far more consistent and reliable, and is more rugged mechanically than a point-to-point wired guitar amp. Another advantage is that, since the circuitry is clearly mapped out on the board, PC boards are also quicker and easier to service.

One should also bear in mind that there is absolutely no sonic difference between point-to-point and printed circuit board wiring. Detractors of PC boards have argued that they are less reliable due to cracked solder joints or failure prone to burned traces—neither of these complaints are ever an issue with a properly designed board.

The moral of the story...let your ears be the judge. Don't really give a crap where my rebel was made...sounds f'ing amazing to me.Egnater Rules and Bruce you are a freakin' genius. Love your stuff.

I dunno if the channels can be changed or not, I don't have another one that has a 1/4" plug on it, and I certainly don't want to pay for one on top of paying $17 to ship my defective one to the U.S.

I am hoping to have mine this week so I don't think I'll be going out to buy one, that would be a waste. IMHO.

Oh bummer that you are having to ship the footswitch overseas. But regarding getting an additional footswitch, I always carry a spare when I gig. People are tromping over chords on the stage, therefore the footswitch cord could easily get shorted out at a gig. Bring 2 of whatever is needed to finish a gig. 2 guitars, 2 amps, extra cords, strings, batteries etc.

Since when is Canada considered "overseas?"

I am busy person and just read the gist of your post. Didn't catch the Canada part, but I caught the part of how you are making a mountain out of a mole hill with a little footswitch.

Sorry, but I couldn't help but respond to this. Not everyone can afford to have 2 of everything - I certainly can't - and for me, buying an $800 amp head was a big investment. It's all relative I suppose. So, I don't think this guy made a mountain out of a molehill here. The core issue was his frustration with the lack of communication on the manufacturer's part. It seems the problem has now been addressed by the man himself, which is something I've never seen any other manufacturer do, which is in and of itself a testament to Bruce's character

I didn't mean to offend. I have been blessed with a good paying corporate america job and have not had to worry about money too much lately. Anyway, I won't retract my comment about needing 2 of everything if one is playing a professional gig. For instance, you can't play someone's wedding and then have your amp die on you without a replacement ready to go. Same goes for cords shorting out or guitar electronics losing their solder connections mid gig.

I was wondering the same thing, too. Did you get your pedal and....does everything work fine now?

If still trouble....begnater@aol.com

Hi Bruce no pedal yet. USPS to Canada is very slow.

Thanks for following up though I appreciate it. I will post in here when received.
