Apparently these are already available. High output ceramic geared for “80’s glam”.

Anyone happen to get one yet? Wondering if this is a Dimarzio SD type thing.

There's was some talk over at the Seymour Duncan forums a few weeks ago and someone supposedly got one but hasn't reported back yet . I'd guess it`s a take on George Lynch`s custom wound Distortion pickup he was using in the 80s

Something about Lynch's The Hunter pick with Duncan isn't available anymore. Lynch was in a band prior to Dokken called Xciter and that's how they came up with the name.

Of the new releases this is the only one I'm interested in. $140 is a bit steep though imo to have the same old gaudy look and logo style.
They should have done the logo small like on the invader, and then offered the poles in silver, black, and gold. They do have bobbin color options at least.

I’m actually interested in this but I’ll probably wait to see some video reviews of it.

You can order with all those options and it shouldn’t affect the price

Yeah I'm really interested in this one. I liked The Hunter pickup quite a bit when I used it years back, and apparently this Exciter is very close to that. I'd been wanting to get a Hunter again for some time now, so I'm thinking about getting the Exciter instead. $139 is a bit steep, I agree, but at least in this case I have tried out the original and loved it (Hunter) so if this basically does what that did or better, then I'm sold. Definitely curious to see/hear what others say who've gotten their hands on one.

I had the Hunter in a Superstrat baritone and then in just a regular Superstrat. I liked it as well, very responsive, crispy and crunchy sounding, great harmonics. Think it would sound great in a mahogany body (had it in an alder hardtail). Kind of reluctantly listed it for sale last week but not so sure I want to sell it. Great pickup. Would love to try the Exciter as well.

From what I've read it's a slightly underwound distortion with a standard thickness magnet. The earlier JBs and Distortions were not as hot as the new ones

I was a die hard EMG guy through all of my actual ‘playing out’ years - doing the 3-4 nighter cover circuit with a few originals tossed in just to piss off club owners. About 5 years back, I went full on passives along with swapping magnets in all sorts of winds. Then I fell down the rabbit hole and yanked most of my ‘off the shelf‘ pickups in favor of pricey boutique custom winds. (I have a shelf FULL of pickups now…)

A couple of weeks back, I was getting ready to record a few tracks for a friend and decided to shuffle pickups through an alder slap-together-spare-parts guitar that I planned on using to record. Not sure what motivated me, but I pulled a fancy pants ($) pickup out and reinstalled the Duncan Custom Custom that previously lived in that guitar - and ended wondering why I ever pulled it in the first place. IMHO - if you have a ‘59, a Custom, and a Distortion and are willing to swap whatever magnet you prefer, you can stop buying pickups.

I have an Exciter I installed in an alder bodied guitar. I have the Hunter and it's the same pickup/same sound.

I think they both suck and neither one is in a guitar anymore
What didn't you like about them?
I'm a huge fan of the Duncan distortion & have been since the 80's. I built my sound around that back in the day. A few clips I heard seemed that the Hunter nailed that sound.

Ok so it's not just me. I've had some older Distortions and thought they were under powered relative to the brand new Distortions I've used. They sound great, but a brand new Distortion is just a flame thrower IME. I didn't think ceramic magnets aged that much, so underwinding might be the reason for the difference.

Sounded like a thin, anemic distortion. Not much bottom end. If you want Lynch tones you can get those pretty easily, but there wasn't a lot of lower end to his tone.

I'll sell it to you if you'd like

I'll take it .
How much ?

Does anybody know the difference between the Hunter and Screaming Demon ?
