Dylana at 3rd Power Amps to build Satriani his next amp for the tour

What does he mean by the 5153 is really small sounding
And small sounding? He must have not explained it very well because regardless of anyone's take on the Peavey and EVH amps, they aren't small sounding by any means
There's plenty of clips of people playing 5153s and getting decent VH sounds too.
There's an endorsement deal in there, I bet. His JVM's were great for the Montrose Tribute. His excuse why they wouldn't work for VH is ridiculous.
I dunno--I wonder for days which amp to bring to a gig that will have literally dozens of paying customers in attendance. Not gonna second guess someone wanting something special for a tour with these guys.

I really don't get any of this . You have EVH , Montrose, Chicken Foot, Sammy Hagar . Are you supposed to have a rig for everyone of them ?? You can have all the EVH tone you want but Satrian's playing doesn't remotely sound Like Eddie . There's so many people and amps that have the Van Halen tone just pick one and go with it . To have 3rd Power design one for this gig doesn't make any sense to me.

My initial reaction was why not just use a properly spec'd plexi. Somebody from the company actually responded to this on a post on FB. The goal is to have an amp that can cover VH, Chicken Foot, and Hagar as they will be playing tunes from all of them on tour.

It also amazes me how many people bitch and moan these days when new gear comes out. I'll never understand it. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

My understanding from the interview was that he wants to get close to the Live Without a Net tone.

I HATE his sound on Live Without a Net. It's a joke compared to the Roth-era sounds he created.

The 5153 and all modern amps do sound small compared to old school Marshall. I love modern pre-amp type amps, but honestly they are a different thing no matter what anyone claims.
This.

There are a lot of amazing high gain amps out there, but for me, nothing comes close to a cranked up fire breathing old school NMV Marshall. Having said that, I think it's a very safe bet that Dylana will create a tone machine for Joe. I look forward to hearing him play it.

This is all weird and lame like joe...Sammy should have done his homework and had all the players and this shit worked out bf all this took place.

Sammy if you're reading this I can fix all this, I know a guy and his name is Al Estrada and he can play through a toaster and sound like Ed.

World class virtuoso that‘s played more notes onstage than the majority of this forum combined takes advantage of the fact he can have anything and everything built for him to help him do the best he can at paying respects to another world class virtuoso.

Guitarists on the internet: “That’s stupid. You should do what I think is best.”

So why not just find an old Marshall and have Dave Friedman spec it to Ed's amp? The 3rd Power is just gonna be another persons take on EVH when Dave actually knows the insides and every details of that amp. Besides way to many guys out there ala Erik Estrada or Phil X that can cop EVH using Marshalls, Splawns or Friedmans. Not to mention getting some pups ala EVH instead of those Joe model Dimarzio's, that'd probably help.

Because it’s not about having the best build what is needed. It’s about “equity”.

I can’t wait for the new “equity” pilots, doctors, nurses and lawyers to start popping up.

Now before someone thinks I’m badmouthing 3rd power amps, I am not… those amps have their own niche. A niche I wouldn’t not call the VH brown sound.

World Class Virtuoso who blew up the internet with his poor choices of appearing on a nationally broadcast show with no rehearsal, gets put on the spot to play things he can't pull off, using junk digital gear.
Nobody who can pull off VH seems to need a custom amp built. Looks like an endorsement deal in the works. An associate at 3rd Power already checked in at TGP and alluded as such.

Ahh I see what it will become. Nuno had a signature model with Randall but he doesn’t use it. Lynch has had many from peavey and Randall and doesn’t use either (take a stab at what he gigs now - it’s topic related). Joe has a signature model from Marshall but it’s limited run and yep you guessed it, he’s not wanting to use it. Yngwie and his signature marshall. The list goes on of endorsements that are just money market grabs for the manufacturer.

I foresee a pattern that will not be broken for some artists.

3rd Power is a great company - but whatever she dreams up won’t touch George Metropolous for copping a 68 plexi versatility verbatim. He’s literally built a career with huge demand in that market and owns it. Estrada has been doing the VH thing across many eras for ages and he used Splawns to get the versatility. Andy wood and Pete Thorn have kicked ass using Suhr 68’s live for VH.

When I think EVH and versatility I don’t think 3rd Power. Hell even the new 5150 iconic’s could do it as they are more Marshall mids based and James Brown designed it. I just don’t get it beyond market endorsement BS.
