Just got them in today... reminds me a lot of a Winged C EL34, but a bit hotter like a JJ E34L with more clarity. Probably the best power tube I've put in my Uberschall. My main problem with the stock JJ EL34's is that they make the amp very, very tight and bassy, whereas these KT77's loosen it up and add a richer, fuller midrange to it. I love em so far, but I can't afford to keep them. :(

I've got em for three days, so I'll post more later. On the whole, very impressed. They do very well in an ultra high-gain amp like the Uberschall. I'll try the cleans next!

BTW, I biased them to 33 mA a tube.

Thanks for that!! I'm glad you like them. They are really nice! The mids are juicy.

Also, Tyler asked me to comment on how well the tubes are matched. They are within 3 mA of each other. It would be within 1.5, but one tube is reading a bit off compared to the rest. They sound great anyway. :)

Cool. I always match the tubes into two pairs. I take the hottest tube and pair it with the lowest. I can usually get the two pairs very close. The OT only sees two pairs. As long as the tubes are within a few MA, I'm happy. If one is too far out, it runs too cold, as I bias the hottest tube to range. Your PV is probably high in that amp. They might match up even closer at a lower PV. Thanks for posting. Aside from liking the tubes, how is your experience with Tyler?

He's a really nice guy, so far so good!
Any more thoughts before you send them on? What can the next member in line expect in your opinion?

Hey all,

Sending the tubes back today. These are great, probably the best quad of tubes I've used. They're just so versatile. They're hot like an E34L but with the clarity of a Winged C. Cleans are shimmering and clear. My gain channel showed a fuller, richer midrange and top end while rolling off some of the bass that the Uberschall (IMO) has too much of.

I would've bought them, but I'm a college student saving up for grad school and I really can't afford them right now. Which is too bad, because they're easily the best tubes I've put in my Uberschall. Really well-matched too. You guys won't be disappointed!

I've got winged c 34's in my bones so would these basically be just side stepping with these?

No. Not even close. Very different from Winged C's in many ways. Much different lows, highs and mids. It's explained above. More power as well as these are 30 watt tubes as oppossed to 25 like the Winged C. Your amp will put out approximately 20 watts more give or take. Chunkier mids. Tighter bass, and a sweeter high end. More complex and dimensional.

This. These are a lot better than Winged C's, at least in a high-gain amp.

Yep! I have two quads of Winged C's in their boxes.

Damn more GAS!! that would put the BONES at close to 150watts then, since I would be pairing with 6550's.

HOLY SHIT!!

Sorry, more like 130watts give or take!
They would rock in your amp especially paired with 6550's. That will be great mix. Get in line to try them.

Just an update. It looks like the quad will be back for testing and should hopefully be shipping to the next member on Monday. A little broken in depending how hard leib10 pounded them. Good positive review from him.

Good stuff to hear I am waiting on Dave's A/B test with the JJ KT77. Really interested in that.

As far as an amp having more power with these, I'm not sure that will be the case in all amps. Even though these dissipate 30 watts compared to an EL34's 25 watts, it depends on your amp/OT if you will actually get more power out of the tubes. Not all OT's will allow for the extra watt dissipation.

Very good point. Hope you can enter our little trial. I can't wait for Dave's thoughts as well.
