AgreeJames brown said it’s been tweaked in the preamp to sound slightly more vintage as well. So it’s not just a power tube bias circuit and heater supply change.
I’m hoping it’s not an amp that can only do brown sound Van Halen and stays a metal amp.
Was there ever a 5150 made that didn’t have exuberant amounts of gain?James brown said it’s been tweaked in the preamp to sound slightly more vintage as well. So it’s not just a power tube bias circuit and heater supply change.

I'm still impressed with yours, that we heard at the fest last yr. I've gotta grab the EL34 version. Was there ever a 5150 made that didn’t have exuberant amounts of gain?![]()
I agree. It just blows my mind that these weren’t a huge success. I play mine right next to all the big boys and it easily stands toe to toeI'm still impressed with yours, that we heard at the fest last yr. I've gotta grab the EL34 version.
For my taste, these smoke the 5153s.

A lot of the original clips were forced to be done with the matching cab which is a complete failure. The amp really never recovered from the bad reviews once they were paired with proper speakers and cabinets.I agree. It just blows my mind that these weren’t a huge success. What most people dont know is on the originals if you insert an empty patch cable in the low gain input while plugged into the high gain input you can get even more gain. You just turn the gain knob down to get a different flavor to the gain. Was there ever a 5150 made that didn’t have exuberant amounts of gain?![]()

I meant where he posted about it.James Brown?
I have never heard of plugging into both inputs on the old Peavey 5150 amps to change the gain/tone.Read it again.![]()
+1, my Iconic 40 is my most used amp. My 101b, Savage and Sabot are great but the Iconic just sounds great anywhere you put the dials. Cleans even give my Deluxe Reverb a run for their money.I agree. You either believe it or you don’t. I don’t bullshit here and people know it.I meant where he posted about it.
