What was Eddie's live rig in/around 1981 for those in the know?

Jose EVH mod known as Atomica due to forum legend Chubtone.

If you really wanted to know you'd ask this at the Metro Forum :D

Must be awesome because I left my bass gig for a 80s college alt band

Wonder if Fortin mods AC30s?

I always get confused about the marshalls he was using. Some interviews say he used no mods at all, and some sources say otherwise. I know he liked to use misinformation to hide how to get the tone. I read somewhere that he did nothing but crank the bias and dime every knob. One said he would have to change tubes every or every other show and the extreme heat from the high bias was the reason he had the back grill off and possibly a fan on it.

I never know what to believe

i thought we all agreed to agree in the one thread that he used a Vox

We all saw the photo's....

People will argue about EVH's early gear forever, but if Dave Friedman and John Suhr say Ed's #1 amp was 99% stock (cap to boost the midrange...not a huge deal) with original solder joints everywhere, then I believe them. Those guys could make a lot of money claiming to have the secret recipe. Truth is, there isn't one.

Happiest I've been getting EVH tone is sending an amp to Rockstah for the Mod5. I doubt it's the spec EVH used (cascade with plexi filtering, a Lar/Mar PPIMV, and some tweaks), but it sounds the closest to anything I've played and that's all I care about. Hell, gimme a modded Gorilla amp that sounds like early EVH and I'll play the fooker.

I wasn't wondering about the amp so much as the rig layout. The amp has been beat to death many times before. Found what I need though.

Makes one feel sort silly with all the fancy racks, pedalboards, switching, etc. when you take a look at that gear piled around the studio! I have only seen that pic zeroed in on the back of the Marshall, but not the rest of the photo. Thanks..........
