Favorite old school thrash metal tones

Overkill years of decay and Horrorscope. I saw them on both yours as a kid. My 1st show was years of decay with Bobby g.

Saw Nuclear Assault, Testament and savatage during the Practice What you Preach tour. All of them sounded great during those years.

Anthrax always sounded good in those days. Megadeth sounded best during So Far So Good So What and Rust in Peace.

Sepulturs from Beneath The Remains and onward.

I wasn't a huge Metallica fan except for the first two albums (never really listened to MOP in its entirety until later). I've grown to appreciate AJFA

I don't consider Obituary thrash but I love their tone, Carcass, and Bolt Thrower if we are talking about Death Metal

If you listen to the remasters, SFSGSW definitely has the best rhythm tone of their older shit.

Of their later 90's and 00's material, I really like the tone on Cryptic Writings and Youthanasia.

I'm biased, Todd Langner was a great friend. He had dialed Gary Holts jcm 800 so well that to this day he still uses it for certain things...for the time he was wayyy ahead.

The only old school is the best, Exodus and Metallica had real tones before everyone else had a chance. Slayer never had great tone till later in the game.
I think Reign In Blood has a pretty damn good tone. Great production for a 80's thrash album.

You cats have mentioned a lot of cool bands. I like Flotsam & Jetsam's When the Storm Comes Down, I thought their live tone at Springfest in Phoenix in 1991 killed their recorded tones.

Mordred - In This Life

Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence, Frolic Through the Park, Act III

Sepultura - Arise

Death Angel Act III was a staple for me back in the day. Great album.

Exodus and Metallica just have a ridiculously powerful riff that will stay with you long after the song is done. The slayer.... just WOW!
