Whitechapel-The Valley or Kin. Absolutely perfect sounding albums. The chugs in Forgiveness is Weakness are arguably my favorite recorded guitar tones ever.
No wonder I loved these albums so much. The production and guitar tones were just flawless. Never even imagined it was a recto

Really!? That doesn’t sound like a recto to you? That’s interesting! My guess is because you are hearing a recto through a Marshall BV style cabinet with Marshall vintage speakers, instead of the usual Mesa cab with V30s. Atleast, that’s my best guess anyways. Marshall cabs are (finally) making a huge comeback in modern metal production, and I for one couldn’t be happier, they are far and away my favorite speakers/cabs.

I think I just didn't listen closely enough to be honest. I knew I loved the tone but didn't even think about what gear they may have used. Just absolutely loved both albums for many reasons.

Don't we have one of these threads like every month?

I heard some of Crowbar's album Odd Fellows Rest was recorded with a recto, even though Sammy Duet says it was Randall rg100es into oversize recto cab. It definitely sounds like a recto on some songs. Brutal as fuck anyways. "1000 years internal war" is crushing. That one sounds Randall to me.

I watched the interview with Dave jergen and he says it’s a Marshall, Randall and a rock man that they blended
A Randall on Dirt? I doubt it. The Rockman part is true though, they used it for the high end. I think they used a VHT for the low end?? I know they used a RG80ES on the Facelift "we die young" demo and it sounds better than the CD version.

Marshall Vintage speakers are just 16 ohm V30's. I thought this has been settled.

There is no difference between Celestion V30's and Marshall Vintage speakers. Just a different label.

I don’t think you’re right. The Marshalls are different. Please link to a source.

100 percent completely false, not true in the least. The Marshall celestion vintage is the “original” v30 design, which is nothing like what the v30 is today.

Sounds better……lol

it was facelift he was talking about, i posted the part of the interview

I saw JR live playing baritones through Rectos and it was one of the most brutal and articulate live guitar tones I’ve ever heard. It was absolutely jaw dropping.
Before I figured out how to properly dial one in, I bought and sold 3 of them. Twice was right after seeing JR. Lol

I can certainly attest to the difference in response I experienced when using those Celestial Vintage cabs in the early 90's to what came after as the Vintage 30. The Vintage cab just had so much size in it's sound over the regular 75's.
