For shred/metal style guitars. At least thats my opinion. Discuss...

How about under $500. This will be my next guitar. SZ320

For those that disagree what have you bought for under a grand that you like better?

New, I agree. Used I'm not so sure. My EB/MM was 900 and it RIPS for shred. I'd put it up against ANYTHING. I think new Ibanez are probably the best bargain for that kind of stuff though.

for under a grand the esp/ltd gets my pick

ibanez and schecter put out some nice stuff as well tho, ibanez would get a lot more points from me if they'd get off their ass and start using real pickups more

Totally disagree.

Then what would you have for under a grand?

Used ESP or ESP/LTD, used Gibson, Burny, Orville, Edwards, Schecter, Epiphone, etc. Ibanez guitars have pretty much every feature I hate in a guitar. Basswood body, rosewood fretboard, shitty pickups, paper thin necks, etc.

Just wait a min you fag :D My old Ibanez has an Alder body, Ebony fretboard and very nice electronics. ;)

I'm not sure if I agree, or disagree. I'll think about it.

Must be an older JEM. Those definitely don't sell for under a grand.

new, i agree, assuming you're willing to switch pickups, it's hard to beat an rg1570 for the price (around $900 here). though the washburn x50pro is pretty good value here. and gordon smiths (though they aren't metal/shred guitars).

They're definitely good for the money under a grand, but used, you can just about pick up an EBMM as generalgrievous said, which are, IMO, far better.

I've had a few Ibanez's in my time .. liked them alot ... but drifted to mainly reg. or hybrid strats mainly because I wasn't using the whammy bar at all

and now many years later .. I tried out a Satriani Model not to long ago and thought it was one of the most comfortable guitars I've ever picked up ... I love the way the heel is contoured where the neck meets the body .... insane playability on the upper frets
