How about under $500. This will be my next guitar. SZ320

I hope you try it first. I had to try about 10 of them to find one that sounds the way mine does, and the rest were fairly loose in the lows (yes in a bad way).

PS. My guitar is black, so it wins automatically. :)

And yes, for <$1000 (or even ~$500) Ibanez "can be touched". Yamaha.

Most of them were the figured maple topped ones, right? I don't think I've ever played a single one that wasn't "tubby." They change the 320s too much, so I can't say much about those.

The ones I tried were either black, white or metallic gold. There were also a couple with the "figured maple tops" but I didn't count those in that last post. I tried about a dozen of those models in general, but of the ones with opaque paint jobs I still tried about 10.

Forgot to add, old Charvels (Model 1s, 2s, 3s etc..) that can be had for $300-$400 are insane!

The question wasn't if you could brag about how immeasurably better your music stores are than the ones here and make me cry. :aww:

Winnipeg pales in comparison to most major cities when it comes to music stores. We have two good ones that have a good variety of guitars.

Yeah, well, sucky as you may think it is compared to others, at least you don't live next to a city with over a million people, and possibly several million in the metropolitan area, where you typically can't even find two similar models of some cheap guitar, much less 10 of just one variation of a model to try out in one store.

Don't even get me started on the "high end" stuff. *head implodes*

Well that was my intent. So there, farm boy.

Pacifica, AES, RGX, all of them are quite good.

Surprisingly, we're not so bad off. Having a couple different chain stores like Mother's and L&M beats living in a city with 2 or 3 GCs, IMO. That plus we have some smaller stores which aren't too bad.

i think a charvel model 4 or a model 6 is a better buy. they don't have as thin of a neck, but i think they're much ballsier

the charvel 750xl is in another class as well

I have an old late 80s Charvel 650XL, that IMO wiped the floor with every Ibanez i played. Bigger and fatter tone, I prefer the Schaller floyd to the Ibanez Edge, and the neck felt nicer to me!

I would have agreed a few years ago, but now I disagree, except for their hollowbodies. My Edwards LP Custom blows away any under a grand Ibanez solid bodies I've owned in the past (RG1527, 570, 560).

good point.

when i said under a grand, i meant what's available new in the UK for under a grand (in $, or under £500 sterling).

If this expands to allow shipping from Japan, then I'd say I prefer edwards. Though I've only tried their Gibson copies (and their superstrats are over a grand).

I don't like the Ibanez Wizard necks so i wouldn't buy an Ibanez at any price. You can get an EB Silhouette or Axis for well under 1k, I'd take one of them anyday over most any I'vebeenhad.

Buy a RGT instead! ;) Ultra neck profile which is 2mm thicker than the wizards and neck-thru construction...

Don't know what happened to my post but:

yep Ibanez is a winner in the $1K and under category but, is not the only game in town:

New: USA Peavey's
Half the Schecter Diamond Series
USA Fender Highway One HSS
Made in Taiwan/Japan Yamaha's
Half the Japanese Jacksons
Half the Edwards'

Used: Half the ESP models
Yamaha Pacifica 8xx series (and higher) and Weddington's
The ocassional USA Jackson you can get under a grand
Half the Carvin's
The $1,500 or so Ibanez models that you can get for under a grand because they're used
Etc...
