100% agree. Guitar cables matter too :D
I agree, especially in the high end. Tubes of course matter as well... I find even the order you put pre-amp tubes in affects the tone. Putting the highest output tube in V1 is generally the best option I think. I like to put a JJ (before the phase inverter) in the last slot to kinda tighten things up a bit, does anyone else do that? I have literally no experience with NOS tubes, I guess I should get to it.

Put RCAs in your American amps and Mullards in your British amps. If you only have ONE spot to put in an RCA blackplate , it would be a hard choice between V1 and V3/PI to the output tubes. I personally run all blackplates in my American amp and RCA smoked grey glass outputs. No going back, the sound is unmatched in tube terms.

Again, the 3D soundscape and smooth top of the Mullards combined with a strong, tight bass, makes it a dream in Marshall and Vox, etc.

I know a very reliable tube guy who happens to also sell on Reverb. I think it is Cool Factor audio. I always deal with him personally and Greg has top notch, quiet NOS tubes.

I might just pick up one or two RCA's, I really just wanna good high output NOS tube to put in V1.

If it is a head, rather than a combo, I would highly recommend an RCA blackplate. I have heard them work fine in certain combos as well but not in my small combo, a tad too noisy.

You will notice the difference when you put a good blackplate in, if you don't, I'd be worried.

CoolFactorAudio is a good source on Reverb. I have an eBay seller: desireme1978 or something like that that I've had some success with but Greg/Cool Factor have the best examples of various makes I've ever heard. Every tube will have its own sound in a way but Blackplates have the tightest bass and such. Love them to death now. In the FX loop? Hell yeah dude, 3D as can be w my TimeLine.

Good luck rolling!!

So the new speakers date code is MG24 , what year and month is that, you guys know? They sound different for sure, and mixed with the 2006 speakers I think the cab sounds pretty cool.

I wish I understood their coding too. TOJB has a recent video where he goes into some of that, or at least when the different labeling systems made changes and what not.

Mixing them is probably the best anyways. I like all the various V30 tones.

glad to hear they are sounding good, i was afraid you would get the shitty sounding ones

He's got some experience producing and mixing. His mixes, while being nothing to write home about, aren't some bedroom kid's with POD Farm either. But getting sounds that really stand out is about details, IMO. I mean, I'm pretty sure his idols Fredrik Nordstrom and Andy Sneap are not like "yeah, grab any pickup and go".

The pickups thing is probably his most obnoxious opinion of all time

And it's 100% because Glenn Fricker is a dogshit guitar player, he doesn't understand how much the difference in feel creates a difference in HOW YOU PLAY

I've got tons of clips of pickup comparisons of stuff like the tonenerd sunset and Roxy and Wagner icebucker and godwood, that's all A5 and early teens output

But they all sound completely different and it's fucking obvious

I get his point. His point during his video was that pickups don't make as much of a difference as some other stuff like speakers, mics, and mic position. Alright. Point taken. 100% agreed.

I think he just took it to the extreme with his shouting and his whole "everybody is a dumbass" bravado. And then he goes out and downright says they make NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL, when in his clips, minute as they may be, there was a difference.

I'm not one of those people that goes by "feel", personally. I'm more in line with him in the sense that the end result (the recorded tone) is what matters. If a pickup "feels" too dry for me, for example, I just raise the gain or boost it harder or use a different boost altogether, and then I'm happy.

But I also don't discount people's opinions when they talk about "feel". I know I'm not really a "good" player. Or maybe, an "holistic" player would be the way of describing it. I like my palm-mutes to sound machine-like with as much consistency and power as I can deliver. I rarely ever play leads. I do agree that dynamic and expressiveness takes more of a center focus when playing leads or other non-Metal rhythm playing.

Ya, it is obvious. Anyone who knows anything about guitars and tone know that a pickup definitely changes the feel and tone, even if it's just subtle. Some pickups more than others... like a Duncan Dimebucker to a Invader for example, WAY different.

There really is no fizz or high end noise with these speakers. There probably is a dip at 5 - 6k like people have been saying. Nice and clear sounding too. Even though they're not broken in yet they do sound really warm as well.

That's good to know and fits my theory. What letter is stamped on the cone? Z, A or something else?
