Gibson 80s Explorer Ebony - ’84 Explorer

I really hate how Gibson C&Ds the companies that do killer takes on the Explorer and Flying V - ESP and Dean being the big two that come to mind (since I'm not sure if Hamer ever got C&D'd) - but then they themselves do fuck all but the most basic boring shit with them. It's either 50s style Korina, or solid black/white with a white pickguard. Fucking lame.

The ESP MX250 is still one of the sexiest metal guitars ever made, let alone Explorers. The Hamer Standards oozed class by doing the relatively simple trick of giving the Explorer the LP Standard's trim: body and neck binding, cream plastics, trap inlays. And the Dean Zs offered an economical mix of both styles across many models.

If Gibson wants to block ESP from releasing MX250s in the US, fine, but they should at least have the decency to actually manufacture that design themselves.

It would be amazing to have the MX250 available from ESP. Wouldn't have to worry about build quality etc.

Was it in in the mid-90s when the ESP explorer standard line got taken out by Gibson?

Yep. And just the fact that Gibson won't make an Explorer with MX250's specs just means consumers get fucked over, having to compromise on either specs or appearance to get the guitar they want.

In the same vein but even stupider, the original Eclipse design is so much better than the one they use post-C&D, and again, it competes with next-to-nothing in Gibson's lineup.

Is ESP now a bigger company than Gibson? Curious if they could throw their weight around more in the courtroom than they did when Gibson went after them.

Word is they got threatened by Gibson recently and stopped producing MX's altogether. Even in the Japanese market, so I don't know what they're doing.

Even Edwards is apparently quitting the Gibson shapes is what I've been told.

I would love to install EMGs to this guitar so anyone know what is the rear cavity like in this explorer? Does it have room for a 9V battery?

If it has an ebony board maybe?

Jesus Christ for 2500$ though there's just better options

Rosewood board... Anyways these go normally for 2666-2800€ in Europe and now they are blowing these out for 1888e so I had to buy one. I am just hoping I'll get a good one. ☺️
