Hey all,
Since there is so much discussion around the new Mark IIC+ amps (someone even tagged me in another thread) I figured I would stop by and let you all know;
I just got off of a long call with the folks at Gibson Marketing. We were discussing some Mesa video stuff on my channel, when I let them know I currently have 2 different versions of the Mark IIC+ amps at my studio that were graciously loaned to me by the owner, a viewer of my channel.
When I revealed this, the marketing guy got VERY excited, and asked me ifn I would be willing to do a direct comparison video of the old vs new amplifiers. I said "sure, as long as you guys are ok with that?" Comparison videos, I have found, can be a touchy subject with some companies who aren't confident in their products.
The market guys said, "NO. This is EXACTLY what we want. We are supremely confident in these new amps, and we welcome anyone to try a direct comparison to an original". With that said, we ended the call, and he started scrambling for a dealer close. to me. He found one, N Stuff Music in Pittsburgh.
As of now, they are going to send us a sample amplifier from their own stock for us to compare later this week. There will be some videos on both my channel, as well as N Stuff's channel. For all of you guys that hate me, N Stuff has a guy play in their videos that can actually play, so I'd say to check their videos out once they release. https://www.youtube.com/@NStuffMusic/videos
I will be doing one of my standard amp playthrough videos, as well as a 2 part blind test video. First part will be the truly blind test, where we record a number of riffs and play them back to back from each amp without telling the audience which amp is which. The second part or video #2 will be the reveal of which amp is which, and a direct unmasked comparison.
I personally feel like this is the best way to do it to take personal bias out of the equation for the viewers, so that's what I want to roll with. I'll keep you all up to date on the status of filming and when the videos will be released. Hopefully, this will answer the questions of the people who actually have an open mind.
