This poll has a few hours left to change y'all's votes to bridge pickup only :ROFLMAO:
Guess I'll get started n the next poll... :cautious:

Good luck bear!

Guess the next step is pickups. Any thoughts?
So far am thinking Black Winter combo and Nazgul/Pegasus combo.
Not sure what else is popular with the kids these days.
Seems like EMGs are a given, 81/85, something else?

I really like the Duncan sh-14 and jazz with superstrats. And the emg retroactive 77 set is amazing with them.

Both put a little more low mid warmth into the mix which I prefer

I would guess the superstrat guys would probably approve of the combo's you mentioned though

I feel like everyone has a jazz sitting in a drawer.
They can put it in themselves :ROFLMAO:

If you follow through on a neck pickup, just have the cavity there and say “fuck you, you fill the damn thing. Picking the bridge was exhausting” 😏
Lollar, low wind, unpotted. Perfect for the basement rockers here playing 4ft away from enough gain to serve with pancakes, who, also want to add the joyous overtones of close proximity to an attenuator.

Pickup choices are so personal to someone’s style of music and what amp’s they’re using. I would just err on picking something kind of common and inexpensive. Someone is bound to change whatever is in there. Or pick one you’ve always been curious about for yourself, so you can at least hear it through your gear before sending the guitar out.

It’s almost a shame you can’t wait for the lucky recipient to be known and then they can choose from a high output choice and a low/medium output choice. You could call it the Rock option or the Roll option. Or the Punk and the Poseur option.

Just between you and me, if you feel really strongly about one Hum, especially if you do decide to do a finish that wants that real estate, pull an executive order on it.

Translucent bobbins are cool.

Going to reverse course and move on to body paint/finish before pickups.
There's reasoning behind it.
Will get the poll going later.

It literally disgusted me. Perhaps it was different tunings. I am Eb and drop d

Was back when there weren't many other options, tbh.
Or at least ones I wasn't aware of.
Usable enough for me if it's in a guitar not too close to the bridge.

I was just so spoiled with the custom/59 which is pretty close to what @Ola Englund uses i think

I bought #17(i think) from the first run of limited guitars when Solar first took off. Loved the pickup, so tried to figure out what it was. I kept coming accross it was some version of custom

Mahogany Dinky Body
Maple Neck with Fender Standard Modern C Carve (0.80"@1st to 0.85"@12th)
43mm (1.69") Nut Width
Reverse Pointy Headstock
Rolled Edge Ebony Fingerboard with 16" (15.75"/400mm) Radius
Lisa's Top Secret 12th Fret Inlay (not a question mark in case you were wondering)
25.5" Scale
24 Stainless Steel Jumbo Frets
Gotoh 1996 Tremelo/Vibrato

Just catching up on where the specs stand. Whoever builds this is going to hate y'all with those frets. I've seen luthiers break multiple sets of expensive fret nippers on stainless steel frets. Being so hard they're a bitch to work on.

I’ve never had a guitar with SS frets. I’ve never had an issue with wear on regular frets so never felt the need and like you said I’d rather have something somebody can easily work on.
