I am fine with any emg. I had an 81/85 that i loved.

As far as passives, this is a metal guitar. So i think the pickups need to be brutal. M6 is a good one i would love to try. Nazgul or black winter are two i never tried

Both the BW and Nazgul are awesome.
Would recommend he BW for standard tuning over the Nazgul and vice versa.
Although, either are great for whatev heavy. Just nitpicking.

Will the Duncans have the logo? I like the pickups but really, really hate that logo on there.

Probably. I know some of them are black and others have none. If it bothered the winner, I suppose a bit of painters tape and nail polish remover r other that won't harm the plastic should do the trick during a string change. Perhaps some buffing compound? 🤷‍♀️

See it both ways.
Prefer the clean look, myself.
In some ways find logos off putting.
All the writing on a headstock, pickups, bridge, even some strap buttons...
Like a racecar or something. :ROFLMAO:
Completely understand, this is just one of those times where I don't mind it.

As a formula 1 fan, and former graphic design guy, I can agree. Too busy.

I was one of those weird kids that worshiped Seymour Duncan pickups. So when I saw the logo, I instantly thought...they rock.

Obviously not the case now...but the residue remains.😂

Are the black winters that good? I had them recommended to me years ago from a guy that doesn’t even play metal.

I think they're good, for what they are. Same with the nazgul set

They are about as subtle as a brick through a window, but that works for certain rigs and tones - especially for a SS, i think it's a good call, personally

I like Mike Stamper's youtube for pickup comparisons because he plays and uses the same gear for each comparison. He uses profiles, so may not be the best direct interpretation for what someone might expect compared to their own, but can still get a good sense of where they are at compared to each other. He has over 1k video comparisons, so can probably find almost any pickup vs another.

Never heard of him. I’ll check it out.

How would you compare them to Lundgrens, Dan?

I don't know much about higher output pickups, I know I like clear sounding and defined string seperation during high gain. I'll defer to the pickup pros.

Lundgrens are too bass heavy even for my taste.
They also have a weird ice picky fuzz that I could never get over.
Maybe it's just my amps, but not a big fan.
Not sure why you keep bringing them up, though.
SD or EMGs only, sorry.

Mostly out of curiousity. I have nothing against SD and EMG, I am actually excited about rhose too, but the extensive lineup such as SD’s just leaves me clueless haha

I'm not a huge lundgren fan at all so I might not be the best judge - although, i did like scotts psykes which is also a very bassy pickup so it just might be the lundgrens i tried

As Lisa mentioned, they are too bass heavy for the tones I normally go for

Both the Nazgul and the BW are alot more "grindy" and more midrange focused, and have way more "kerrang", where as the lundgrens are low end heavy IME, i didn't notice the fuzz lisa did, but i could not get them to work for me at all because of the lows

It ended up being really unbalanced sounding especially when I do my normal triplet triplet rhythm stuff

Thanks man! I just remember the times when everyone said they were IT. Plus Meshuggah is quite tight with them, so was curious.

Fuzz is probably the wrong word to describe, just a strange overtone that kinda echoed/ringed out a bit. Almost like hitting a muted string on the treble side while playing the bass side. Don't feel like they were bad pickups, and def have a lot of punch, but they kinda added that character that was hard for me to dial out. Had the issue on both the 8 and 6 string versions. I know they have their following, but personally not feeling them.

Definitely have a lot of options, and many I'm not familiar with.
Which is the reason I've asked for input.
Don't want this to be about what I personally like.
I know a lot of members speak highly of the Duncan Distortions, but I don't like them at all.
So, not trying to push my tastes on this build, just offering my own experience and wanting others input.

I just cant do something called distortion. It may sound great, but that is loose butthole rock lingo, and so it sounds like it wouldnt work for metal, where you clean boost because the amp has the gain
