Yes, I have an RT 2/50 in my rig now and have always been happy with it, both with my M4 and IE-4. But you know, on every forum you get people saying the VHT is the best power amp ever...so it's interesting to hear another perspective from someone who has actually tried both!
I've used the VHT 2/50/2 w/ EL34s and 6550s, and the VHT 2/90/2 w/ KT88s and 6550s, and the RT2/50 w/ E34L's / 5881s and E34L's / 6550s. Even just running the RT2/50 w/ 6550s, I don't feel at all like I'm missing something w/ the RT2/50 compared to the VHT 2/90/2. I personally preferred the 2/90/2 to the 2/50/2 as I thought it was tighter, and a bigger rounder sound. The RT2/50 has all of that and more (meaning MIDI switching, self biasing, etc). You could set up either the 2/50/2 or the 2/90/2 to run any of the tube just like the RT2/50 (I've done it...so I know its perfectly possible). But the design for switching tubes, etc. with the RT2/50 is so much nicer.
Of all the power amps I've owned / used over the years (VHT 2150, VHT 2/50/2, VHT 2/90/2, Marshall EL34 50/50, Marshall EL34 100/100, Marshall 20/20, Marshall 9100, Marshall 9200, Mesa 20/20, Mesa 50/50, Mesa 2:90, Randal RT2/50, Marshall Silver Jubilee power section (which has a pre-eq return...so you can use the eq as tone shaping w/o using the preamp of the Silver Jubilee), Marshall JCM 800 power section (with a pre-eq return), and others I'm forgetting)....I'd rank them like this as far as tone.
1. VHT 2150
2. Tie - VHT 2/90/2 & Randall RT2/50
3. Marshall Silver Jubilee power section
4. Marshall JCM 800 (with a pre-eq return mod)
5. Marshall 9200 / EL34 100/100
6. VHT 2/50/2
7. Marshall 9100 / EL34 50/50
8. Mesa 2:90
9. Mesa 20/20
10. Marshall 20/20
11. Mesa 50/50
If you add in flexibility, and ease of use for a live situation (easy tube swaps in the event of a failure, etc), the only change would be that the Randall RT2/50 would come to #1 for me, with the 2/90/2 being #2 (for weight reasons), and the 2150 being #3.
But that's just my opinion.
As far as the GNR recordings, I took the day off yesterday to finish up a lot of projects down in my "man cave / recording studio." I'm nearly finished with all of them, which means my recording studio is nearly back to functioning again! (This 2-3 months w/o having it has SUCKED!)
Look for recordings in the next day or two.
