This concept has truth ? I know childhood events become the scaffold for learned behavior but why comedy? Specifically in this arena; Looking for love in brotherhood where there was a void? Intelligent adult figures who know music/electronics who we substitute for our mom and dad? “Look at me, I got jokes”.
This one comment could be an entire thread on its own. Maybe not for this forum but the psychology behind comedy and why we perceive things as funny or salty or dark is truly stemmed from our past experiences.
I personally use comedy to get away from what I see on a daily basis in my own life; pain, suffering and end of life decisions. I see dozens of people passing through the Kubler-Ross model of grief every day and I think because of that my escape is music and salty comedy. I actually perform live the exact same way. What if comedy is used by some as a defense shield. Stupid joke means stupid person ie covering up intelligence to prevent from exposing themselves. idk. Food for thought on an early Saturday morning.
To sum up; I’m not sure comedy is always a sin. Pope Gregory did not classify comedy in the 7 sins.
This post is not meant to be cross. Just a different perspective as my work partner says the exact same thing as @shredi knight. He gets along fine without comedy in his life as he uses organization and strict order to cope. Not right or wrong, just a mechanism.
