The weird part is that you can get away with it in your slower, more lyrical playing: floating around in tempo and meter - I was just talking about this to NRF on one of the clip threads

where you can't get away with it is fast, alternate picked stuff. It sounds like a mess and and ruins what could otherwise be a good idea

Completely agree. That’s what I like about your rhythm and lead playing, it’s in time and in the pocket. And that makes it sound professional.
