That's a very misleading description of taxes and free markets.Republicans supporting higher taxes and democrats suddenly for free markets
Yeah, just wait until their profits tank from refusing to do business with an entire country that buys a lot of steel
Dude, they will go under without the US market. Period. They are afraid, rightfully so, that once US businesses see the bill with tariffs included, they will cancel their orders, which is very expensive for the seller (increased inventory storage, cancellation processing and stock rerouting, etc). Their logic is that it's better to sell to other countries that are not as profitable but much more stable.

It was foolish for us to allow critical manufacturing like steel production to be moved out of country. Now we all pay. We'll see how it plays out. In the meantime, US customers suffer.
But you only care about Americans right? What happens when supply drops and demand remains the same again? Ever take economics?Yeah, just wait until their profits tank from refusing to do business with an entire country that buys a lot of steel
It's foolishness to imagine any one country can be totally self sufficient. It was foolish for us to allow critical manufacturing like steel production to be moved out of country. Now we all pay.
The iron range has taconite, we have ore ships on the Great Lakes, but we shut down most of the steel plants. My grandfather retired from US Steel in Duluth MN. Lotta people were out jobs when those places closed. So while I agree with your premise, the idea that we couldn't be self sufficient when we are talking about something like steel wouldn't be accurate. It's foolishness to imagine any one country can be totally self sufficient.
Yeah corporations put profits ahead of Americans workers and national security. Surprise! So while I agree with your premise, the idea that we couldn't be self sufficient when we are talking about something like steel wouldn't be accurate.

Think about the devastation all those places closing left behind for families and people's dreams. Look at the rust belt, destroyed dreams and lives. Duluth was one of the richest areas in the nation it's heyday. It actually has fewer residents inside city limits today. Imagine what 250-500 people in that area with a good job, benefits, and full pension would do to uplift it never mind all the auxiliary businesses that would pop up alongside of it, plus iron range workers, and seamen shipping ore and steel.Yeah corporations put profits ahead of Americans workers and national security.
