Understandable.
IIRC peeps who go that way tend to use .7mm picks or thereabouts, not 1mm or more.

ya know, I have been helping out a friend with his rig, switching and whatnot, but he happens to have just about every pick I've seen at GC. I couldn't believe the stash this guy has. To the point, I got to try all kinds of different sizes and materials, and it was kind of shocking to hear the difference it actually makes with materials and shape. I would have cried foul if I hadn't had the opportunity to try a zillion.Understandable.

If no angle, you need to use the very tip of the pick. I wonder how good that works for metal rhythms.Indeed it does, but some manage to avoid it altogether.
IIRC Paul Gilbert trained himself to attack the strings at a perfect right angle 'cause he hates it when the attack is "smudged".
In theory, minimal smudging should be the ideal for better articulation, methinks.
EDIT:
Could have been Marty Friedman. I"m pretty-sure it was one of those guys.
It sounds like if you were to place your finger on the string right above the fret wire on fret 5 or 7 or 12 or whatever, natural harmonic. Are there even people who don’t angle pick? It naturally angles more or less.
Audio doesn’t play on my phone, so I can’t know what harmonic sound are you guys talking about. Is it like pick scratching the winding or what?
I am trying to figure out how pick angling can make that sound whilе down picking with palm mutingIt sounds like if you were to place your finger on the string right above the fret wire on fret 5 or 7 or 12 or whatever, natural harmonic.
Idk but I can't unhear itI am trying to figure out how pick angling can make that sound whilе down picking with palm muting

You fuckers are so picky lolIdk but I can't unhear it
Yeah, i cut through the strings like a knife. The flat pick can work with a flimsy little shit, but most of my picks are rigid and sharp as fuck.I tried adjusting my picking to that at one point, but I could only do it with flimsy picks, and my tone suffered. I wish I could do it, but angled is the only way I get over the strings without sounding like
This haS got to be the best post ever on this sitecan we please get back to shittalking about gear instead of actually playing our instruments?
I have a pick that makes a shitload of harmonics when angling, especially on my clean workI am trying to figure out how pick angling can make that sound whilе down picking with palm muting
How is that picky at all?You fuckers are so picky lol
Brother, this pick is girthier than most guitar blogers’ dicks!I have a pick that makes a shitload of harmonics when angling, especially on my clean work

Mother fucker is about 9mm though
How is that picky at all?
That would be completely unplayable for me, why I said something about it.
I couldn't imagine every single palm mute sounding like pigeons chirping
Touche, i stand correctedThis entire conversation got started because of how ...................picky................... he was.
Ha ha ha I'm hilarious.
I realised after my shift last night that it could only have been one of these three dudes based on interviews I've seen lately:PG by the looks of it angles pick quite noticeable. Marty with his weird right hand position is probably the one you talking about.
Pauls is angled for sure, I rechecked. Maybe it was fot something particular? Some run, or song, or technique?I realised after my shift last night that it could only have been one of these three dudes based on interviews I've seen lately:
Marty
Paul
Kiko
So who knows, it may have even been Kiko.
