The “someone who knows what they’re doing” part is an understatement. PTP is not the go to design choice for high gain and to get things working and stable while doing so requires a level of expertise that cannot be understated. Definitely worth more than 3k at the end of it all especially when half of that is hardware costs these days. Ballpark 4-5k similar to wizards IMO.

I agree about the value being in the skill of the builder. But there are no components in this amp that cost more than any other comparable amp. Pots, jacks, tag/eyelet board, wire, Beyschlag resistors, Vishay/ERO MKT1813 caps. Larry is in Germany and these are easier to get and cheaper than in the USA.

Yeah but I’m not comparing singles of components to a single amp - I’m talking bulk purchases since no amp uses just one of a single value. Ever since covid it’s only gotten more expensive. Beforehand the excuse was low stock high demand. Anymore it’s just the new normal. Buying in bulk gets dumb expensive anymore due to shipping costs and added tariffs. I do agree though the bulk of the price is not hardware, it’s the talent and knowledge that goes into placing them.

I'm tempted. But would need to install US IEC and rewire for 120v before you could even test it to see if it works properly upon arrival.

Maybe you could request a FaceTime like session where they fire it up and play for you

Also once they get the layout the way they want it they can just bang out the following units. So it’s really figuring how much was the R&D worth to spread it over future sales? Building these, once the layout is known by a decent builder, isn’t exactly diffusing the Nuke, 7 seconds to go with 1mm of room and the wires all look the same color under the emergency lights!
