Henry Kaiser.......who is this guy

Oh shit. This very same subject caused a shitstorm of epic proportion over at TGP. I can't find the exact thread over there, it may not even exist anymore, but it was great reading. Apparently he is quite a good player and a heck of nice guy to boot.

The best part of that fucking video is at :42 where he jumps up and "ends" his little ditty on what I'm sure he was hoping was a massive chord, but it sounded more like a well-executed squirrel fart.

I don't know about Dumble, but if I was Eventide I'd sue him. If I was ever thinking of an Eventide this video would kill that gas. :lol: :LOL: :lol: :LOL:

That guys "playing" is just complete bullshit. I hardly ever judge anybody because I am not a great guitar player but that guy just straight up sucks! And so does the Interpretive dance! What a bunch of freaks!

I can understand playing a different style of music......look at John Cage. 4'33 is a song with a lot of philosophy behind its meaning. I just do not understand this video with Kaiser and Dumble. Dumble can play though in this video.

Yes Dumble is a good player. Played in Santa Cruz with the band Snail (played Bass) back in the late 60's early 70's. Played guitar in those days as well, played a Super 400. Dumble can play for sure. So can Henry.

are there any examples of what you consider good kaiser moments online to hear?

cause at the moment based on this and other yt clips i've heard of him he strikes me as a fashion guy trying to convince me that garbage is the new great.

i will never let someone else tell me that feces tastes great and smells like perfume, although it might be that to some.

I'd laugh more, but this looks like one of those videos that they overdub to make funnier. The sound doesn't always match up with what he's playing, but sometimes it does... It shows him fingerpicking, yet you are hearing the sound of someone picking the string behind the nut... dead giveaway.

This one's better.
 
You can see from some of his videos on line that he can play guitar. But some of it is just ridiculous. Mozart was an unconventional musician. He was the only musician at the time that created a rocket theme in music and broke barriers in the classical world of music. By no means do I think Kaiser is a musician like Mozart, but I can respect what he does with regard to making sounds. John Cage was a philosopher who spread his philosophy through the art of sound. I feel that Kaiser is doing the same thing. You can make the argument that Kaiser is being conventional and using the art of sound like that of John Cage. DJ's and Techno artists do the same thing with sampling and creating sound.
 
zappa's nuts, but i get it.
david torn and fripp and frizzel are avant garde but i get them too.
holdsworth is bizarre space language data dumping to some but i love him.

but this extra odd quirky stuff like kaiser and bailey is asking way too much from me. i normally admire players intuitively if they are truly great. i wanna sprint away cackling in laughter and disgust ala "are you freakin kidding me!?!?!?" like the minute i cave in and say they're ok someone's gonna jump out of the bushes and say it was all a joke.
